Abstract:
Disclosed are an improved apparatus for collecting fine fibers, such as glass fibers, having a mean diameter of less than two microns from a gaseous stream, a method of collecting fine fibers using the apparatus and the novel new product produced by this method. The improvement lies mainly in the way in which the collection drum is supported and sealed which allows the collection to take place at relatively high partial vacuums. The fiber is also consolidated in the gaseous stream by passing it through a duct having at least one approximately ninety degree turn therein.

An airblast fuel nozzel (16) for a gas turbine includes a central swirled airflow. The vanes (52) of the swirler (30) are cambered to provide smooth intercept and discharge of air, thereby effecting more uniform fuel distribution than the prior art.

A method and apparatus for accumulating and densifying microfibers such as glass fibers having mean fiber diameters below 1-2 microns is disclosed. A fine fiber blanket having been collected on a collection surface is removed and wound up on a mandrel having a permeable surface while a partial vacuum, preferably exceeding one hundred inches of water column, is maintained in the interior of the mandrel.

A replaceable fuel nozzle nut lockwasher adapted to fit about the peripheryf a fuel nozzle nut so as to secure the fuel nozzle nut to a fuel nozzle. The replaceable fuel nozzle nut lockwasher comprises a pair of semicircular shaped members clinched together by a pair of tabs. A pair of grooves located within the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher prevent the axial movement of the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher upon the fuel nozzle nut. In addition, a pair of dimples located within the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher, and a third tab affixed to the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher prevent the rotational movement of the fuel nozzle nut lockwasher about the periphery of the fuel nozzle nut.

Article packing or unpacking apparatus, including two correlated driven conveyors, the first for articles and the second for moving cases through a fixed course having a horizontal section and with both conveyors having fixed orbits, the article conveyor being in a vertical plane above the horizontal section of the second conveyor; and article grippers are positioned by carrier bars engaged with the article conveyor, which grippers depend from the carrier bars in a lower reach of such article conveyor. A pair of control arms are individually secured to each carrier bar at different ends thereof to engage guides as the article conveyor is moved downwardly towards an inflection area so that the article grippers are presented on vertical axes as they are moved into, along with cases moving through the horizontal section of the case conveyor fixed course. The articles are deposited in a case, and the guides and control arms move the article grippers up away from the case with continued downstream movement of the conveyors.
Abstract:
An apparatus for compressing bulky materials, like microfibers having a bulk density of less than about 0.2 PCF, to a much higher density, e.g. about 10.8 PCF, and packaging the compressed mass without damaging the material. The apparatus comprises a hopper having a pivoting wall wherein one edge of the pivoting wall is tapered and cooperates with a curved extension of one wall of an adjoining compression chamber to prevent the material from being pinched or scarffed which would damage the material. The compression chamber is long enough that when the compression means is withdrawn to accept another charge (each package requires a plurality of charging and compressing cycles) the compressed material cannot expand into the opening the compression chamber leading to the hopper. Finally, one end portion of a wall of the compression chamber has a movable retaining wall that also forms a portion of a wall of an adjoining packaging chamber. The hidden hinges and mover for the retaining wall is such that it allows the retaining wall to fit the openings in the walls of the compression and packaging chambers so tightly that the gaps between the retaining wall and the openings do not exceed about 0.067 inches.

A golf club head comprising a striking face section, a sole, and a flange extending about the periphery of the sole. The flange decreases in height from the upper edge of the striking face section to the back edge of the sole. A composition insert is secured within the front of the striking face section. This structure provides a crownless club head.
