Abstract:
A method for preparing a textile can include obtaining silk components, such as non-spun silk components, from a cocoon. The method can also involve assembling the obtained silk components obtained from the cocoon into a pattern, and attaching the non-spun silk components together. The method can still further involve shaping the attached non-spun silk components, and finalizing the shape through heat-treatment. In one implementation, heat-treatment of the shaped components comprises heating the components with a heating apparatus (e.g., iron, or oven, etc.) for an appropriate time and at an appropriate temperature. A variety of end products, including jewelry, and textiles for further processing generally, can be made from the silk prepared in accordance with an implementation of the invention.
Abstract:
A pitch-based carbon fiber sliver providing a high-strength carbon fiber spun yarn is efficiently produced by providing a pitch-based carbon fiber mat comprising a mass of piled-up pitch-based carbon fibers of which fiber extension directions are aligned preferentially in one direction; and directly subjecting the carbon fiber mat to drawing and carding by means of a carding machine while moving the mat in said one preferential alignment direction. The thus-obtained carbon fiber sliver is drawn and twisted to produce a pitch-based carbon fiber spun yarn containing at least 3 wt. % of fibers having a fiber length of at least 150 mm, a number of primary twist of 50-400 turns/m and a tensile strength of at least 0.10 N/tex.
Abstract:
In an apparatus at a carding machine having a web removal and sliver formation device, there are provided, following on from the web removal device, a web funnel and a pair of draw-off rollers, which are arranged to pivot together with a rotary mounting. In order to provide an apparatus which is dimensionally stable and which facilitates servicing work, the web-guiding element, on the one hand, and the web funnel together with the pair of draw-off rollers, on the other hand, are arranged to pivot separately about the rotary mounting and are connected to one another by a locking and unlocking device.
Abstract:
In an apparatus for producing a fibre web, for example of cotton, synthetic fibres or the like, a web-former and/or a web-bonder is/are arranged downstream of a flock feeder device and the fibre material is conveyable. In order to make it possible by simple means to produce a uniform fibre web, a drafting device is arranged between the flock feeder device, on the one hand, and the web-former and/or the web-bonder, on the other hand, for drafting of the flock material.
Abstract:
An apparatus for splicing a leading end of a first sliver deposited in a coiler can and a trailing end of an out-running second sliver fed into a fiber processing machine, includes a device for tapering the leading and trailing ends to obtain gradually tapered length portions thereof; a device for positioning the tapered length portions side by side to obtain a juxtapositioned relationship thereof; a pressure-applying constriction through which the first and second slivers pass for splicing together the leading and trailing ends by pressure; and a device for introducing the first sliver, spliced to the second sliver, into the fiber processing machine.
Abstract:
An automated drafting system particularly suitable for drafting textile strands of sliver is provided. The automated drafting system includes a synchronous drive sliver drafting roller system utilizing toothed gears in the preferred embodiment operatively connecting a pair of drafting rollers with one of the rollers being directly driven by a motor to thereby cause identical rotation of both rollers. The automated drafting system also includes a system for securing and pressuring together upper and lower sliver drafting rollers wherein the lower roller of a pair of drafting rollers is preferably maintained in a fixed but rotational position while the upper roller of the pair is pressured towards the lower roller and controllably restricted as to both horizontal and vertical movement during the drafting process. A sliver autoleveling system using tongue and groove drafting rollers to sense sliver uniformity is also included in the automated drafting system utilizing linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs) to monitor vertical displacement of the upper roller of a roller pair relative to the lower roller. The automated drafting system further provides a feed-forward and feed-back autoleveling system for control of sliver drafting rollers utilizing an input sliver sensor and an output sliver sensor communicating with a computer to facilitate sliver uniformity. A draftless sliver coiler packaging system is still further provided by the automated drafting system and utilizes a sliver level sensor to controllably and automatically adjust the speed at which sliver is packaged subsequent to emergence from a variable speed sliver delivery system.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus for the production of absorbent materials comprising fibers cross-linked by a suitable cross-linker therefor, and wherein said cross-linker is associated with substantially the entire surface of each fiber, said materials being preparable by mixing of an aerated suspension of the charged fibers with the cross-linker before heating and compressing, such fibers having a capacity for fluid absorption considerably greater than has been heretofore known for such materials.
Abstract:
An aerodynamic forming hood is provided for supplying a substantially uniform distribution of fibers in a downward laminar airstream for the deposition of the fibers on one or more forming surfaces. The hood is formed by a rectangular housing having opposed elongated downwardly diverging side walls and short downwardly diverging end walls. The housing has a smaller rectangular open top end through which a supply of fibers is released in an airstream which enters into the housing. The forming surfaces are disposed at a larger bottom forming end of the housing. The side walls and end walls in the top part of the hood are provided with elongated horizontal apertures. Controllable suction boxes are connected to the apertures for the controlled evacuation of air and fibers through the slots to substantially eliminate the formation of air turbulence and hence boundary layer separation in the airstream inside the housing to obtain the said laminar airstream with a substantially uniform distribution of fibers therein.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for accumulating and densifying microfibers such as glass fibers having mean fiber diameters below 1-2 microns is disclosed. A fine fiber blanket having been collected on a collection surface is removed and wound up on a mandrel having a permeable surface while a partial vacuum, preferably exceeding one hundred inches of water column, is maintained in the interior of the mandrel.
Abstract:
A device for severing the sliver in a filling station for cans of a textile machine producing the sliver, upon the replacement of a full can by an empty one. The filling station comprises a sliver coiling device on which there is mounted, over the gap between the transferred full can and the can just beginning to receive the sliver, a sliver holding device and also a sliver grasping device which is reversibly movably mounted on the coiling device for the sliver to move with reference to the sliver holding device thereby to sever the sliver held between the grasping and holding device by movement of the grasping device.
