    摘要: As drive shoe assembly (50) for a transportation system in which transport units (31) are propelled along a path by frictional engagement of the drive shoe assembly (50) by a drive assembly (36). The drive shoe assembly (50) includes frame members (54) and a plurality of resiliently flexible traction members (52) disposed therebetween defining a resiliently flexible traction surface (60). The traction surface (60) is coupled to the frame members (54) and, further, is positioned to be frictionally engaged by a plurality of drive wheels (36) in a sequence situated along the path to propel the transport unit (31) forward. Upon engagement between the drive wheels (36) and the traction surface (60), the resilient traction surface (60) is sufficiently deflected such that any ice accumulation on the resilient members (52) will crack and fall away. The resilient traction surface (60) allows the use of solid tires (36), affords damping against lateral swinging of the units (31), and accommodates acceleration and deceleration without tire-shoe slipping. A method of avoiding detrimental ice build up on drive shoes, as well as lateral swing damping, acceleration accommodation, and tire wear reduction.

The apparatus includes a carriage on which the cable is carried, a pneumatic carriage displacement apparatus in the form of a piston and cylinder, a source of gas under pressure, and a regulator and relief valve connected to establish and maintain a pressure within the cylinder which falls between predetermined minimum and maximum pressures. As the aerial tramway is subject to passenger or cargo loading and ambient conditions which change the tension forces, the pressure in the pneumatic cylinder will vary within the preselected range, and upon a change in the tension force beyond the range, gas is automatically exhausted from or interjected into the pneumatic cylinder to maintain tension forces within the preselected range.

    摘要: A positive cable derailment sensing apparatus and method for use with pulley means having a cable carried thereby to detect derailment of the cable from the pulley means is disclosed. The sensing apparatus includes a flexible tendon secured to a low inertia component of the pulley means, usually a pivotally mounted yoke carrying a pair of pulleys, and secured to spring biasing means to bias the low inertia component for movement upon derailment of the cable from the pulleys. The flexible tendon normally extends from the pulleys to a remote position which is protected or shielded from adverse environmental conditions. Sensing means is located at the remote protected location and formed to sense movement of the flexible tendon and stop the advancement of the cable over the pulley means upon derailment. A switch construction particularly well suited for sensing the derailment of either side of the looped cable of the type found on chairlifts or the like is also disclosed.

    摘要: A haul rope grip assembly for an aerial tramway is disclosed which is suitable for both detachable and permanent gripping of the tramway haul rope. The assembly includes a gripping head having a pair of relatively spaced apart converging haul rope gripping surfaces oriented for gravity biasing of the surfaces into wedging engagement with the haul rope under loading of the grip. Additionally, the assembly includes a jaw positioned proximate the surfaces and formed to apply supplemental force to the haul rope in a direction tending to further wedge the haul rope between the gripping surfaces. The jaws are also formed to unwedge the haul rope upon movement from a closed to an open position. In the detachable grip assembly, a pair of independently movable jaws pivotally mounted and actuated by levers are biased closed with leaf springs that are spaced apart to allow for a hold down sheave. In the permanent grip assembly, the wedging surfaces are further oriented to increase wedging as the grip passes around a horizontal bull wheel. The method of securing a grip assembly to an aerial tramway haul rope is also disclosed.
