Abstract:
A vaccine, toxoid or like agent is administered to an animal by injecting the agent (usually intracutaneously) on a physiologically acceptable colored particle, preferably activated charcoal, which has a particle size whereby the colored particle remains at the point of injection to provide a visible mark which evidences administration of the vaccine or toxoid, and a repository of immunologically active material to serve as a booster.
Abstract:
Metal hydrosulfites are found to be advantageous reducing agents for removing oxygen from contained atmospheres. When dissolved in alkaline aqueous gels, the hydrosulfites are effective to initiate and maintain anaerobiosis for culturing oxygen-sensitive microorganisms and animal tissues.
Abstract:
The disclosure is of an improved method for the in-vitro detection and identification of viral associated immunoreactants in biological fluids including cell cultures. The improvement comprises admixing the fluid with solid, porous carrier particles bearing surface adsorbed, known immunological homolog/surfactant complexes. An agglutination reaction indicates the presence of immunoreactant corresponding to the surface adsorbed homolog.
Abstract:
A gas generating package includes tablets or other material, which when contacted with water generates both hydrogen and carbon dioxide. A catalyst for the hydrogen-oxygen reaction is applied to the exterior of the package, with the exterior of the package preferably also having applied thereto carbon dioxide and anaerobic indicators. In this manner fresh material is employed during each run requiring an anaerobic atmosphere.
Abstract:
A termination means for a plurality of riser pipes at a floating platform including a termination member for supporting said plurality of riser pipes, said termination member being supported and suspended by constant tension means on said platform. The plurality of riser pipes include a central riser pipe and satellite riser pipes arranged around said central riser pipe. Each of the satellite riser pipes extend through the termination member and are supported from said termination member by fluid pressure actuated tension compensator means which serve to tension each of the riser pipes. The termination means is adapted to both rigid and flexible riser pipes.
Abstract:
The disclosure is a method for the in-vitro detection and identification of reagins in the blood serum of allergen sensitized vertebrates. The method comprises admixing the blood serum of the vertebrate with solid, porous carrier particles bearing surface adsorbed, known allergens. An agglutination reaction indicates the presence of reagins corresponding to the surface adsorbed allergen.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for anchoring an offshore tension leg platform which includes a platform supported above an ocean surface by buoyant supports comprising at least three vertical buoyant support members. Each vertical support member includes a central axial conductor tube for passage of drill pipe adapted to be connected to anchor members carried at the bottom of the vertical support member, the drill pipe providing a for lowering the anchor member, for drilling beneath the anchor member to pin the anchor member in the ocean bottom, and for transfer of ballast from the vertical support member to the anchor member. Each vertical support member includes longitudinally extending anchor line casings spaced from the axial tube to provide passageways for anchor tension lines connected to the anchor and adapted to be tensioned at the upper end of the vertical support member or at the platform. A method of anchoring a tension leg platform wherein anchor members are substantially empty when lowered and are filled with ballast material at or near the sea floor. A method which includes advantages in mobility, installation, and anchoring of a tension leg platform under varying weather and sea conditions.
Abstract:
A method of conducting offshore well operations including exploration drilling and production from a single floatable platform which is converted from semisubmersible exploration mode to tension leg production mode at a well site. A method of conversion of platform from catenary mooring mode in which exploration and drilling operations are conducted from the platform in semisubmersible mode at the well site to establish production capabilities and upon determining the well site should be produced to tension leg mode for production including the steps of, preparing to conduct production operations in tension leg mode by lowering and setting anchor pile guide means carried by the platform at selected anchor locations, shifting the platform in semisubmersible mode for drilling at each anchor pile guide means, setting permanent anchor pile members in the sea floor at the anchor pile guide means, connecting a tension leg means to the anchor pile members and to said platform, initially tensioning said tension leg means to a selected tension, then releasing said platform from said catenary mooring mode, and further tensioning said tension leg means for operation of said platform in tension leg production mode. A mobile offshore marine platform for conducting exploratory drilling operations in semisubmersible catenary anchor mode and for conducting production activities in tension leg production mode wherein conversion means includes anchor means carried by the platform, means on the platform for installing the anchors while the platform is in catenary anchor mode and tension leg means for interconnecting the anchor means and the platform.
