Abstract:
A patient monitoring network pertaining to blood glucose and other analyte measurements includes wireless blood glucose or other analyte measuring devices and a networked computer or server. Each monitoring device is associated with a patient and is configured to measure the glucose level or other analyte from a given blood sample via inserted test strips, transmit the measurements to the networked computer, and display received messages. The messages may relate to the current or past measurements, or may include an alert prompting the user of the monitoring device to order more supplies, such as test strips. The measurements received by the networked computer may be stored in a record of a database, which may be accessed by a remote computer. The remote computer may also access a script editor to edit certain scripts which produce certain messages sent to the monitoring device.
Abstract:
A topical composition comprising an amount of a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and an amount of .beta.-cyclodextrin derivative effective in increasing the bioavailability of the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor when coadministered topically to the eye.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to radio-enabled devices for detection and remedy of biological and chemical warfare attack. More particularly, this invention relates to an on-body apparatus that provides a means of treatment which is innocuous to the wearer, but capable of injecting antidotes within seconds and preferably also combines multiple means of sensing chemical and biological agents as well as monitoring user's physiological response to the antidotes thereby to enable tailored and continuous infusion of antidotes while minimizing the side effect of the antidotes themselves. A key embodiment of this invention is the incorporation of an electronically-controlled needle or cannula that will deploy only when commanded to. When not deployed, the device sits inertly against the patient's skin, affixed by adhesive and or elastic materials.
Abstract:
A managed care expert system provides a graphical, interactive computer system which accepts user input relating to contract variables for a plurality of alternative contract scenarios, consults a database of national and locality-specific utilization data, performs a utilization and revenue analysis for both commercial and Medicare-age beneficiaries, and provides a synthetic fee schedule for comparing the likely revenue under capitation for a plurality of services to revenue for those services under a current reimbursement scenario. The system of the invention in its preferred embodiment enables a physician or other health care professional to use a broad array of assumptions to forecast utilization of medical procedures and estimated revenue per procedure under multiple capitation scenarios.
Abstract:
A closed loop infusion formulation delivery system for controlling a biological state in the body of a user includes a sensor for generating a signal representative of measured parameters and a computing element for processing the generated signal. The computing element adjusts control parameters within an algorithm, calculates a delivery rate of an infusion formulation and generates commands based on the calculated delivery rate. A remotely located monitoring station communicates with the computing element via radio or wire to further adjust the control parameters within the algorithm to meet changing needs in the body of the user.
