The first tool removes thereby first the remaining burrs and the like and the second tool performs thereafter the actual precision working.

A method for the precision working of crowned tooth flanks of particularly hardened gears with a two-flank abutment and at crossed axes with an abrasive gear-shaped or rack-shaped tool, in which the tool carries out several back and forth feed movements relative to the workpiece in a direction X extending at an angle .epsilon. inclined with respect to the workpiece axis 4 and a plunge feed movement in the sense of a center-distance reduction. The tool does not have corrected teeth. The crowning is created only at the end of the precision working during at least one back and forth feed movement without a plunge feed movement.

Apparatus for the manufacture or machining of straight of helically toothed gears with a hyperboloidally or globoidally or similarly formed toothed tool, which has an abrasive or similar surface and which has such an axial dimension that it covers the entire width of the workpiece tooth system. The axes of the workpiece and the tool cross and the workpiece and the tool are coupled to a guide gearing. The workpiece-tool pairing and the guide gearing each have their own (separate) crossed-axes point. Interchangeable gears can be provided between the workpiece-tool pairing.According to a different embodiment, the axis of the guide gearing and the workpiece axis are arranged parallel to one another, also to another axis of the guide gearing and the tool axis. The parallel axes are coupled to one another through master gears and interchangeable gears.
