    摘要： An optical scanning system is provided for producing a signal representative of a spatial distribution of indicia having different degrees of reflectivity to light, such as a bar code (14). The system includes an optical scanner (12) for scanning beam of light over the spatial distribution of indicia (14) and for producing an electrical signal corresponding to changes in the degree of reflectivity of the indicia. A digitizer (20), responsive to detections in a predetermined characteristic of the produced electrical signal is provided. The digitizer (20) converts the detections into digital words, such digital signals having a plurality of bits. The digitizer includes a timing generation circuit (42) for producing a pulse in response to each one of the detections with a time duration representative of the degree of reflectivity of the indicia as the beam of light. A decoder converts the time duration of the pulse into the digital word having a plurality of bits. An enhancement filter (30) is also disclosed. The enhancement filter (30) modifies pulses produced by a differentiator circuit (24) used in the scanner. Such modification includes increasing the rise time, and peak level of, the pulses produced by the differentiator circuit (24).

    摘要： A scanning device incorporates a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). The laser diode may be mounted directly on an Si substrate which is adapted for movement to produce a scan pattern. A collimating lens may be directly mounted on the emitting surface of the laser. A plurality of lasers may be mounted on the substrate and operated in sequence without movement of the substrate to produce the effect of a scan. The scanning device emits visible or invisible light towards a target such as a bar code and a detector (mounted on the same or an adjacent substrate) senses the light reflected by the target to produce data which is decoded for further processing. A VCSEL uses low current and emits light from a relatively large area so that a relatively large amount of light is emitted for relatively small heat generation.

    摘要： A device for redirecting alarm-messaging from an alarm control panel from its connection to the PSTN to a backup radio transceiver for transmission of the alarm signaling to a central alarm station via a radio network. The switch-over to the radio network occurs not only when the PSTN line is down, for whatever reason, but also occurs when the PSTN line is already occupied by an existing transmission by a premises' telephones, in order to allow the user to make a call over the PSTN during such an alarm condition. Moreover, if during the time the alarm control panel is transmitting its alarm messages over the PSTN, a premises' telephone goes off-hook, the device of the invention terminates the alarm panel's connection to the PSTN and automatically switches over the alarm panel to the radio backup system.

    摘要： A hardware identification system is provided in a bar code reading arrangement including a main body and a plurality of modular detachable scanning heads connectable to the main body dependent on the application desired for the reader. Each of the heads includes a voltage divider dividing identification voltage and the main body includes a microprocessor including an analog to digital converter which reads the identification voltage, converts it to a digital signal and compares the identification voltage against a look-up table of identification voltages and their associated hardware element to identify the module type. Alternatively, or in addition, the module may be similarly configured to identify the main body by virtue of an identification voltage defined by a voltage divider in the main body. Alternatively the hardware identification system includes an electronic subassembly such as a PC board used for example in computer systems for automatic identification of hardware.

    摘要： A bar code reader for reading a symbol located at a distance from the laser comprises an array of groups of reading elements and an array of selectable liquid crystal elements. Each of the groups of reading elements have an associated predetermined operating focal distance. At least one liquid crystal element corresponds to each group of reading elements. In the bar code reader, a device activates a selected liquid crystal element to transmit light to a selected group of reading elements. In this way, the reading elements can operate at a predetermined, fixed operating focal distance.
