Abstract: A safety hatch and safety railing assembly in unitary form which incorporates the fabrication of a roof or deck scuttle with safety guard rails as required by the Occupation Safety Hazards Act (OSHA) around the roof or deck opening of a building. The safety hatch or safety hatch and safety railing assembly of the present invention preferably employs safety railing mounting bracket components that are welded to hatch flashing or to bracket hanger members and are designed to receive and provide for safe and efficient mounting of vertical posts and rails of a safety railing assembly around a roof or deck access opening. The safety hatch and safety railing assembly provides an improved base flashing that additionally functions to hold the roofing membrane to the scuttle curb. Lateral elongate safety members have one end connected to the hatch cover and another end connected to safety railing support posts and being moveable to personnel protecting position upon opening movement of the hatch cover and a collapsed position upon closing of the hatch cover.

Abstract: Devices and systems for housing cables and conduits. An exemplary cable tray is described having a number of interconnectable base members fashioned of pliable elastomer that are designed to be disposed upon a rooftop, floor or other support surface. The base members each contain a number of channels within which cables or conduits are disposed. Separate grooves are provide to retain ground wires. The base members may be formed to provide straight runs, angled turns or T-connection sections that are used as intersections. Cover pieces, also fashioned from pliable elastomer are removably affixed to the base members to enclose the cables or conduits. It is currently preferred to fashion the base member and cover components of the cable tray from crumb rubber or other recycled rubber. The components may thus be easily colored during manufacture. This same material is used for fabrication of interconnectable elements used to create walkways in accordance with the present invention.

Abstract: A lift-up safety grab post mechanism for rooftop hatchway curbs having a mounting bracket on a hatchway curb and having an elongate opening having a pivot bolt for upward and downward grab post movement. A lift-up grab post has a pivot opening receiving the pivot bolt and having a stop member fixed thereto. The lift-up grab post is rotationally moveable between an upstanding position and a horizontal position relative to the roof hatchway curb. The mounting bracket defines a receiver seat and further defines a stop shoulder adjacent the receiver seat that prevents rotational movement of the grab post until the grab post has been raised from said receiver seat to a position above the stop shoulder.

Abstract: An improved safety railing for use with an opening in a rooftop or other location. The safety railing is easily securable to the curb, or upstanding wall, surrounding the opening. The securing mechanism of the safety railing also takes advantage of any outwardly protruding lip on the curb of the opening. The safety railing features a base portion that is reversibly securable to the curb portion of the opening and a railing portion that rises above the base portion. The base portion includes a pair of side members that are shaped and sized to abut the upstanding portion of the curb. Each of the curb members also present a surface to underlie the lip of the curb and engage it if the base portion is lifted. The base portion also includes two base members that interconnect the two side members. The base members are preferably formed of round hollow stock and have threaded nuts welded to each axial end. Threaded bolts are used to affix the side members to the base members. Further, the base portion of the device provides a somewhat flexible joint and pretensioning mechanism that preclude significant bending of the base members after significant use.
