摘要： A method of reducing the destructive effects of a tornado, which has a rotary motion about a center and has at least one clear air inflow region at its periphery, comprises towing through the inflow region one or more fluid dynamic converters which impart a rotary motion to a column of air and thereby disturb the balance of the rotary motion of the tornado so as to reduce its intensity. The fluid dynamic converter comprises a cylindrical casing which is towed in a lengthwise direction by an airplane and has inside the casing a screw-like vane which imparts a rotary motion to the airstream flowing through the casing.

摘要： A system for protecting a coast from erosion by wave action of a body of water comprises one or more rows of fluid dynamic repellers anchored in the water near the shore line. Each of the fluid dynamic repellers comprises a top-shaped bouyant body tethered to an anchor on the bottom and having a plurality of laterally projecting arms. A paddle-like blade on each of the arms is inclined to the horizontal so as to deflect subsurface wave motion, thereby creating turbulence which dissipates wave action that would cause erosion of the coast.

摘要： An airfoil, pivotally attached to a high speed vehicle, is positioned to produce a braking action on the vehicle by means of fluid-dynamic resistance. The airfoil may be positioned to produce a downward pressure on the vehicle and thus enhance conventional braking action. The braking action is further augmented by eductors which reduce the air pressure behind the airfoil and control the air flow about the airfoil. The eductors and a set of rudders combine to provide the requisite stability for successful high speed braking.

摘要： A media cabinet with reversing door is adapted to house multimedia equipment. The door is hinged with the cabinet and adapted to selectively conceal and reveal the equipment. The cabinet may have left and right module sections, each of these module sections having a modular width. The door preferably has the same modular width. The cabinet may further have a center section of two modular widths and a second reversing door. At least one of the left, the center, and the right sections may define an equipment space. The reversing doors may alternatively hinge to conceal the center section, revealing the left and right sections, and hinge to reveal the center section, concealing the left and right module sections. Each door has two opposing face surfaces and presents a closed visual impression in each hinged position of alternatively concealing the center section or concealing the respective left and right sections.

摘要： A fluid dynamic erosion control unit comprises a hollow submersible body the buoyancy of which can be regulated. Arms projecting radially from the body carry paddle-like blades in at least some of which there are openings provided with flapper valves for permitting water to flow through the openings in one direction but not in the other. The unit is submerged in the water and rotatable about a vertical axis. When water flows past the unit, it exerts greater force on blades at one side where the valves are closed than on blades at the other side where the valves open, thereby causing the unit to rotate. The units can be used to protect a shoreline from erosion by creating turbulence which dissipates wave and current action and on the other hand can be used to effect local erosion below the units to protect waterways, harbors and moorings from silting-up.
