    摘要: A method for measuring an area resistance of a magneto-resistance effect element which includes an upper-barrier layer having a first sheet resistivity Rt, a barrier layer, and a lower-barrier layer having a second sheet resistivity Rb, includes a resistance measurement step, a sheet resistivity measurement step and a establishing step. The resistance measurement step is the step of measuring a resistance R of the magneto-resistance effect element by using predetermined terminals. The sheet resistivity measurement step measures the first sheet resistivity Rt and the second sheet resistivity Rb. The establishing step determines the area resistance RA of the magneto-resistance effect element using the first sheet resistivity Rt, the second sheet resistivity Rb, the resistance R and the intervals among the predetermined terminals.

This magnetoresistive element has a pinned layer on one of the first and second low resistance layers, and a free layer on the other, and a barrier layer sandwiched between the pinned and free layers serving as the resistive layer. The method includes preparing a sample including in the following stacking order on the substrate a first low resistance layer having a low resistance, a thin film constituting the tunnel magnetoresistive element and having a constitution identical to the thin films formed of the first conductive, resistive, and second conductive layers and a second low resistance layer having a low resistance, and applying a resistance measurement probe to a surface of the sample to measure resistance of the thin film.

    摘要: In the thin film magnetic head of the present invention, angle of an end face of a heaped layer with respect to a lower magnetic pole layer is made obtuse so as to prevent flux leakage at a rear part of the heaped layer and improve writing characteristics of the magnetic head. The thin film magnetic head comprises: a lower magnetic pole layer; a gap layer provided on the lower magnetic pole layer; a sub-magnetic pole layer provided on the gap layer; an upper magnetic pole layer connected to a rear part of the sub-magnetic pole layer; and a heaped layer made of an electrically insulating material and provided on the rear side of the gap layer and between the lower magnetic pole layer and the sub-magnetic pole layer, the heaped layer having a slope portion, which is extended toward the gap layer and whose height is gradually reduced toward the same.
