    摘要: A primer coating system is disclosed that is resistant to abrasion and corrosion and includes a basecoat or first layer comprising a resinous polyepoxide, an aminoplast, phenoplast or blocked isocyanate curing agent, an epoxy-phosphate, a chromium-containing pigment and a clay that has the capacity to fix phosphate. The system may further include an overcoat or second layer comprising a resinous polyhydric alcohol, a polyisocyanate, a chromium-containing pigment and the foregoing clay, and a third layer of a finish coating preferably based on a fluorine-containing polymer.

    摘要: A polyester-based coating composition capable of forming a striated pattern on a metal surface at a film thickness less than half of that of PVC plastisol films is provided by a thixotropic composition having a thix index of from about 1.5 to about 3 and comprising a hydroxy-functional polyester, a thixotropy-inducing rheologic agent and curing agent. The striated coating is applied to sheet metal in a coil coating operation by introducing the composition into a paint pan of a coil coater, transferring said composition from said paint pan to an applicator roll by rotating a pick-up roll in contact with the composition and with said applicator roll; continuously withdrawing a sheet of metal from a coil thereof and coating said sheet by contacting it with the applicator roll; curing the coating on said sheet by passing the sheet through an oven at an elevated temperature; and continuously rewinding said sheet into a coil.

    摘要: Pigmented, abrasion and corrosion resistant, thermosetting organic solvent solution coating composition comprise: (A) from about 50 percent to about 85 percent of total resin solids of a triol-based blocked polyurethane polyisocyanate having a number average molecular weight in the range of 600 to 4000; (B) from about 15 percent to about 50 percent of total resin solids of an epoxy-phosphate provided by reacting a resinous polyepoxide with at least 0.05 mole of orthophosphoric acid per equivalent of oxirane in the polyepoxide; and (C) a corrosion-inhibiting pigment, preferably a chromium-containing pigment, providing resistance to corrosion. These coatings may be applied to the metal surface to be protected, or the metal surface may be protected with another primer which is overcoated with the subject coatings. The subject coatings are then topcoated, especially with pigmented fluorocarbon coatings.

    摘要: Thermosetting solvent solution coating compositions are disclosed which form hard and impact resistant baked coatings of good gloss retention on exterior exposure. These compositions comprise a butanol-containing solvent having dissolved therein a solution copolymer obtained by copolymerizing from 55% to 75% of vinyl acetate with from 15% to 40% of C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate, from 3% to 10% of C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate, and from about 0.5% to about 5% of copolymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid in organic solvent medium consisting essentially of a butanol at a solids content of at least 65%. This copolymer is used in admixture with a polyalkoxy-methyl melamine in an amount of from 8% to 20%, based on the mixture.

    摘要: There is disclosed an aqueous anodic electrodeposition bath adapted to electrodeposit substantially clear coatings possessing superior corrosion resistance on aluminum substrates in which water has dispersed therein a carboxy-functional polymer at least partially neutralized with a volatile base together with from 0.08 to 0.5 part, per 1000 parts of the bath, of finely divided particles of pigment grade. The carboxyl-functional polymer preferably comprises a copolymer formed by polymerization in aqueous dispersion of the monomers in solution in an appropriate polyhydric alcohol. The pigment is preferably suspended in a carboxyl-functional resin which dissolves in water with the aid of a base. The preferred soluble resin is a copolymer with an oleyl alcohol ether of a polyepoxide and the preferred pigment is barium chromate.
