Abstract: A composition that is easily applied, clear, well-bonded, and superhydrophobic is disclosed. In one aspect, the composition includes a hydrophobic fluorinated solvent, a binder comprising a hydrophobic fluorinated polymer, and hydrophobic fumed silica nanoparticles. Also disclosed is a structure including a substrate coated with the composition, as well as a method for making the composition and a method of coating a substrate with the composition.

Abstract: Some variations provide a method of forming a transparent icephobic coating, comprising: obtaining a hardenable precursor comprising a first component and a plurality of inclusions containing a second component, wherein one of the first component or the second component is a low-surface-energy polymer, and the other is a hygroscopic material; applying mechanical shear and/or sonication to the hardenable precursor; disposing the hardenable precursor onto a substrate; and curing the hardenable precursor to form a transparent icephobic coating. The coating contains a hardened continuous matrix containing regions of the first component separated from regions of the second component on an average length scale of phase inhomogeneity from 10 nanometers to 10 microns, such as less than 1 micron, or less than 100 nanometers. The transparent icephobic coating may be characterized by a light transmittance of at least 50% at wavelengths from 400 nm to 800 nm, through a 100-micron coating.

Abstract: To provide a peeling member formed by a metal plate or the like having a resin coating film thereon, the peeling member being capable of preventing adhesion of a paper right after fixing for a long period of time, and to provide a manufacturing method for the peeling member capable of forming a fine recessed portion on a surface of the resin coating film for preventing the adhesion of the paper. A peeling member 1 includes a peeling sheet 1a comprising a base material 2 having a plate shape, and a resin coating film 4 formed on at least a surface of the base material 2 at a paper passing side. The peeling member is formed to peel a paper from a fixing member of an electronic photographic device by arranging a distal end portion 1c to be contacted with or close to the fixing member. The resin coating film 4 includes a pattern portion 5 formed of grooves 5a, which are a plurality of recessed portions, on a surface of the resin coating film 4 at the paper passing side. A recess is not formed on the base material 2 as a base part of the recessed portion, and the pattern portion 5 is formed after applying and drying a resin coating material and before baking the resin coating material.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical packaging comprising a silicone-free lubricating film of crosslinked organic molecules. The method for producing the pharmaceutical packaging comprises: applying a silicone-free organic fluid as a film on a surface of a hollow substrate for the lubricating film; placing the substrate in a vacuum reactor; evacuating the vacuum reactor; generating an alternating electromagnetic field by an AC voltage source; and introducing the alternating electromagnetic field into the interior of the substrate, a field strength thereof in the gas which is present in or introduced into the evacuated cavity of the substrate being sufficient to cause a homogeneous glow discharge under the pressure prevailing in the cavity of the substrate.

Abstract: Described herein is multilayer article and methods of making thereof, wherein the multilayer article comprises: (a) metal substrate; (b) a first fluoropolymer layer having a thickness no more than 10 micrometers, wherein the first fluoropolymer layer consists essentially of a fluoropolymer comprising reactive groups, wherein when the fluoropolymer is a melt-processible fluoropolymer it comprises at least 30 reactive groups per 1,000,000 carbon atoms and when the fluoropolymer is a non-melt processible fluoropolymer it comprises more than 5 reactive groups per 1,000,000 carbon atoms; and (c) a second fluoropolymer layer having a thickness of about 10 to 1000 micrometers, wherein the first fluoropolymer layer is in contact with both the metal substrate and the second fluoropolymer layer.
