摘要: Replication requests are initiated in a virtual tape emulation system by storing a replication request in a persistent storage area that is shared between a virtual tape emulator and a control station. When the control station sees a pending replication request it initiates a request to a replication control to replicate the affected file or file system to a backup storage array. The control station deletes the replication request when the replication task completes. Deletion of the replication requests from the shared area is taken by the virtual tape task as a signal that replication has successfully completed, and can be reported to the mainframe.

摘要: In one embodiment, a system includes a main data system, a virtual tape volume coupled to receive a write request from the main data system, and an accidental loss protection system configured to receive the write request to the virtual tape volume, detect whether the write request overwrites a label of the virtual tape volume, and prevent the overwriting of the label.

摘要: A method for operating a virtual tape emulator that receives a request to access a directory in a disk array including a set of directories. The method includes determining whether the directory is stalled, and if so, preventing access to the directory. In another embodiment, a virtual tape emulator includes a request reception module configured to receive a request to access a directory in a disk array including a set of directories. The virtual tape emulator further includes a stall determination module configured to determine whether the directory is stalled, and an access prevention module configured to prevent access to the directory if the directory is stalled.

摘要: In one embodiment, a method of updating a list of available scratchfiles at a node accessing a filesystem includes determining whether the node should update the list of available scratchfiles on the filesystem. If the node should update the list of available scratchfiles of the filesystem, the method updates the list of available scratchfiles on the filesystem. In one embodiment, the method may determine whether the list of available scratchfiles on the filesystem should be updated by determining whether another node is currently updating its scratch list for the filesystem. If it is not, then the method may further determine whether the filesystem has added a scratch volume since a previous update of the list of available scratchfiles at the node.
