Provided is an intraoral inspection apparatus for dental use capable of distinguishing and detecting more kinds of diseased sites etc. with one apparatus. The apparatus comprises: a light source unit provided with color-producing light sources capable of inducing fluorescent lights from diseased sites; a wavelength adjusting device provided with a first filter that transmits, among the fluorescent lights, a light having a wavelength of a fluorescent light from a predetermined diseased site and blocks or attenuates a light having a wavelength other than this, and provided with a second filter that transmits, among the fluorescent lights, a light having a wavelength of a fluorescent light from a diseased site different therefrom and blocks or attenuates a light having a wavelength other than this; and an imaging device which receives the fluorescent lights transmitted through the first filter and the second filter, and converts them into electrical signals.

A dental instrument, or a coupling connectable to the dental instrument, comprises an illuminator having a plurality of light emitting diodes that are each capable of emitting light at a selected wavelength in a range 260 to 880 nm. White or near white light emitting diodes may also be included together with a switch. Fluorescence-based diagnosis can be assisted by the use of a single dye or mixture of dyes. Light of about 400-540 nm wavelength may be used to distinguish composite, porcelain or other tooth coloured filling materials from normal tooth structures. Light of about 260-450 nm wavelength may be used to identify dental caries, calculus and/or dental plaque. Light of about 350-500 nm wavelength may be used to cure dental composite. Typically, the dental instrument is, or comprises, a drill, de-scaler, or other instruments such as for cleaning, examination or diagnosis of dental conditions.

An objective of the present invention is to provide a composition for dyeing dental plaque for evaluation of dental caries activity that is capable of simultaneously dyeing dental plaque and evaluating dental caries activity, and which can evaluate thick dental plaque more accurately than the conventional technique. The composition for dyeing dental plaque for evaluation dental caries activity comprises: a blue pigment being dissolved in water and having a color tone not changing at pH 7 or less; a red pigment being dissolved in water at pH more than 4.5 but not dissolved in water at pH 4.5 or less, and having a color tone not changing at pH 4.5 or less; and sugar. The content of sugar is preferably 1 to 50 weight parts to the total of 1 weight part of contents of the blue pigment and the red pigment, and ratio of contents of the blue pigment and the red pigment is preferably 1:3 to 3:1.

For easier removal after X-ray imaging, simple application, and excellent X-ray imaging properties, a dental paste composition having X-ray imaging property comprises: (a) 3 to 25 wt % of polyhydric alcohol; (b) 0.5 to 10 wt % of a powdery high polymer material dissolved and swelled in the polyhydric alcohol and water; (c) 10 to 30 wt % of water; and (d) 25 to 80 wt % of a powdery X-ray imaging material, the total weight of the polyhydric alcohol (a) and water (c) is 3 to 25 times of the weight of the powdery high polymer material (b), and the composition can be added with (e) 0.01 to 5 wt % of a fluorine compound, and (f) 15 wt % or less of an additive which is one or more kinds selected from a cushion material, a sweetener, a colorant, a preservative, an antiseptic agent, a fungicide, a pH regulator, an expander, and a perfume.
