    摘要： Bleeder valve apparatus for blast furnaces are disclosed in which valve parts subject to wear or erosion by abrasive-laden gas are readily accessible from the top of the apparatus for replacement or repair, without the necessity of removing supporting levers or other parts that impair access from the top. The valve members are supported and actuated from below to leave the tops of the valve members accessible. The valve apparatus, which may be either of the outer opening type or inner opening type, also comprises a movable valve member having two seats and a cooperating stationary member or body having two seats, one of the seats of each member being a primary seat that can be removed for repair or replacement. When the primary seats are removed, the remaining seats of the members can engage to prevent flow of gas out of the valve.

    摘要： A method for repairing tubes that, during use, develop on the tube surfaces contaminating layers that prevent joining of new tube sections, as in fluid circulating heat transfer installations for chemical reactors. At least two surrounding protective sleeves are initially joined as by welding, to a tube at spaced locations on the tube to protect underlying portions of the tube from development of such layers. If a defect occurs between the sleeves, the defective tube may be removed by cutting through the sleeves and the tube underneath, removing the cut tube section, removing the remaining cut sleeve portions from the adjacent tube ends, and then joining a replacement tube section to the portions of the unremoved tube that were protected by the sleeves, preferably with new sleeves fixed in place over the resulting joints.

    摘要： Apparatus for supporting a vessel, such as a blast furnace having a shell, comprising a main frame that surrounds the shell and is connected to and at least partially supports the shell by members that are under longitudinal stresses that can fluctuate but do not undergo stress reversal during normal operations of the vessel. A compression ring or auxiliary frame member surrounds the vessel and is fixed to the frame to stabilize it. Stabilizing tie means, all preferably essentially in the same horizontal plane, are disposed around the periphery of the shell and are connected to the shell and the frames. The supporting apparatus for the vessel also includes diverging legs rigidly connected to the main frame; during construction the lower ends of these legs are supported off center from the centers of the legs to enable the lower ends of the legs to deflect outwardly by amounts corresponding to the amounts that they would deflect when loaded with the vessel.
