All messages from the processor are passed down-link, and emulation is dependent upon the contents of an attendant list (452). In operation, the attendant list (452) is built by detecting responses to poll frames from the main controller (401). Once entries are made in the attendant list, partial emulation of responses to down link poll frames and up link information frames for each entry is allowed. No emulation of down link information frames occurs.

According to embodiments of the present invention, the communication system may include a number of locations, each of which has a known or expected number of users but an unknown number of needed access points. Each access point in the communication system may be treated as an individual switch with a limited number of connections (e.g., line connections, gateway channels), even though the number of required access points per location is unknown and the number of users per access point is unknown. As part of the design or determination process, inventory information for one or more locations may be determined. The traffic to and from an access point at the location may depend on the inventory information, which can be used to determine the number of access points needed for the location.

摘要： A method and a system for improving the exchange of data between a master system and multiple slave systems involves bundling multiple abbreviated messages into a single frame and transmitting the single frame across a long delay communications link. The abbreviated messages do not comply with a given transmission protocol such as high-level data link control (HDLC), while the single frame does comply with the transmission protocol. The abbreviated messages are then used to build multiple protocol-compliant frames that are sequentially transmitted across short delay communications links. By bundling multiple abbreviated messages into a single frame, the number of frame transmissions required across the long delay communications link is minimized, while the sequential transmission of protocol-compliant frames to and from the slave systems is accomplished.
