Abstract:
The invention relates to a pesticidal formulation having systemic activity and intended for application to a stem of a plant, which includes the compound methamidophos as an active ingredient, a suitable solvent for the active ingredient, and a colorant selected to impart an identifiable coloration to the formulation for a predeterminable period of time related to the duration of the residual activity of the active ingredient. The solvent is preferably a non-volatile organic solvent selected for its low phytotoxicity and its low toxicity for humans, such as an aryl ethoxylate or a polyhydric alcohol. The colorant is preferably selected on the basis of its water solubility, having a limited solubility in water to be eluted gradually from the formulation over a period of time selected to coincide with the duration of the residual activity of the active ingredient. The formulation advantageously also includes an ingredient capable of screening ultra violet rays of the sun.
Abstract:
The invention provides a composition in concentrated form (“the concentrate”) for dilution with water in the preparation of an agricultural composition for application to crops, soil or animals, comprising a carbohydrate-based pH modifying agent and a pH indicator. The agricultural composition comprises an agricultural chemical whose agricultural activity varies with the pH of the water. The proportions of the pH indicator and the pH modifying agent in the concentrate are selected so that when the concentrate is diluted with an appropriate amount of water, the pH indicator indicates visually by colouration of the composition, whether or not the pH of the water is suitable for acceptable agricultural activity of the chemical. The invention also provides a process for preparing the agricultural composition by mixing the concentrate with water, and adding the agricultural chemical to the composition, if it is not already present in the concentrate.

Abstract:
This invention discloses a new class of pH indicators suitable for use in agricultural compounds. The class comprises naturally occurring substances which are extracts from grape skins, cabbage and lecithin. Safety concerns are now causing regulatory bodies to prohibit use of chemical pH indicators in compounds which are used for crops and animals. The naturally occurring compounds of this invention satisfy these concerns of the regulators and function as well as chemical indicators of the prior art.
