Provided is an optical component for optical communication which is capable of suitably accepting a request to reduce a size, resisting a thermal expansion coefficient difference between constituent elements, and adjusting incident and exit modes relative to an end of an optical fiber to thereby constantly attain optical characteristics which correspond to the request. The optical component includes a fiber holding member (3) holding an optical fiber (2), and a lens (4) which is located on an optical path extending from an end of the optical fiber (2) and attached to the fiber holding member (3). A flat portion (4a) formed in a rear end of the lens (4) is bonded to be fixed to a flat portion (6a) of an end of the fiber holding member (3) such that the flat portion (4a) of the lens (4) is opposed to the end of the optical fiber (2). A gap is provided between the flat portion (4a) of the lens (4) and the end (2a) of the optical fiber (2).

Provided is a wavelength conversion element that can prevent damage to the wavelength conversion element during the use of the light source and reduce the decrease in intensity of light emitted from the light source equipped with the wavelength conversion element during the use of the light source. The wavelength conversion element 20 includes a wavelength conversion substrate 21 and a reflective layer 24. The wavelength conversion substrate 21, upon incidence of excitation light L0, absorbs part of the excitation light L0 to emit light of different wavelength from the excitation light L0. The reflective layer 24 is disposed on one surface 21b of the wavelength conversion substrate 21. The reflective layer 24 is made of a metal or an alloy.

There is provided a light emitting device using an optical component capable of emitting light having a wavelength different from that of light exit from an optical fiber and obtaining light of high output, and capable of being easily attached to an end of the optical fiber. The optical component includes an optical fiber holding member for holding an optical fiber, a light conversion member, and a cap having an inner hole allowing the light conversion member and the optical fiber holding member to be inserted into and an engagement part with an opening for engaging inserted members at one end of the inner hole. The light conversion member inserted into the inner hole of the cap is fitted into the inner hole with the optical fiber holding member pressed against the engagement part. The opening of the engagement part is smaller than a maximum diameter of the light conversion member.

Disclosed is an optical collimator-use lens component including: a thin tube; a partially spherical lens that has been fixed in an inner hole of the thin tube so that an insertion portion having a predetermined length is left, is made of glass whose refractive index is approximately uniform, and has translucent spherical surfaces, whose centers of curvature are approximately the same, at both ends of a cylindrical portion of the partially spherical lens; and an adhesive that bonds the partially spherical lens to the thin tube. An axial deviation amount between a center axis of the thin tube and an optical axis of the partially spherical lens is 5 μm or less. When a capillary tube, in whose inner hole an optical fiber has been fixed and whose axial deviation amount between an outer peripheral surface of the capillary tube and a core center of an end surface of the optical fiber is 1.5 μm or less, is inserted into the insertion portion of the thin tube and the end surface of the optical fiber is fixed at a position at which a distance of the end surface to a focal point position of the partially spherical lens becomes ±40 μm or less, emission light has an emission light bend of 0.2° or less with respect to the center axis of the thin tube.

An optical collimator comprises a sleeve, a partially spherical lens and a capillary tube holding an optical fiber. The sleeve has an inner hole aligned concentrically with an outer surface of the sleeve. The partially spherical lens has a columnar portion fixed into the inner hole of the sleeve and translucent spherical surfaces at both ends of the columnar portion. An optical axis of the translucent spherical surfaces is positioned eccentrically with respect to a center axis of the outer surface of the sleeve. The capillary tube is fixed into the inner hole of the sleeve, holding an optical fiber at a position decentered with respect to the center axis of the outer surface of the sleeve, in a state of an angled end face of the optical fiber facing to the partially spherical lens.
