摘要: A thin film membrane formed to a predetermined shape is produced by bending the membrane to create a loop and softening the membrane that makes up the loop with either thermal energy or a swelling solvent. The softened loop is then drawn between plates or about a mandrel to form a membrane with a predetermined fold radius. The fold region produced by the method of the instant invention does not require an adhesive sealant to prevent unfiltered liquid from diffusing through the membrane. The method is especially well suited for preparing membranes for use in the production of spiral wound filters.

摘要: A loader for moving a filter element between loaded and unloaded positions with respect to a pressure vessel is provided. The loader includes a connection section associated with a loader section. The connection section is operative to be secured in coaxial alignment with the pressure vessel. The loader section is operative to receive a filter element and move the filter element between the loaded and unloaded positions. The loader section includes a cradle assembly for supporting a filter element and a carriage assembly operative to engage the filter element and move it between the loaded and unloaded positions.

摘要: Subjective paper characteristics such as visual appearance and print quality are often objectively related to certain scales of surface roughness. Three dimensional topographic surface data is obtained from a paper sample secured by vacuum to a flat, porous plate for translational movement in a grid pattern beneath a vertically compliant stylus that is resiliently suspended beneath a rigid, overhead support beam. Such surface data is mathematically filtered by a linear convolution technique or the distinctly alternative circular convolution technique to segregate the raw data characteristics of component surfaces that contain only certain frequencies of roughness. The root-mean-square variations of such component surfaces is then used to objectively characterize respective surface characteristics.
