Abstract: A compression device may include, but is not limited to, a threaded body, a sliding element, and a compression element connecting the threaded body and the sliding element. According to one embodiment, upon implantation, the threaded body contacts a first bony fragment and the sliding element contacts to a second bony fragment. In at least one embodiment, upon being engaged, the compression element applies sustained tension to the sliding element and opposing tension to the threaded body, thereby compressing the first bony fragment and the second bony fragment along a plane of contact promoting healing.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus described herein may utilize activation of an SMP material to install medical devices with respect to a surgical site. Activation of the SMP material may be performed with the use of a triggering force and/or a constraint applied to the SMP material. Activation using a triggering force and/or a constraint may be used to create varied activation rates in an SMP material and varying speeds and times of activation to occur in shape memory polymers in devices. The disclosure also describes devices using wedge elements for activation of shape memory response in the SMP material.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a staple including a first leg and a second leg connected to a bridge at a first end and a third leg and a fourth leg that are connected to the bridge in line along a central axis spanning a length of the bridge between the first leg and the second leg. In some embodiments, the first leg and the second leg are substantially parallel with one another at the first end. According to particular embodiments, the staple is configured to provide multi-planer forces as the staple attempts to return to a relaxed position from a deformed position. Such multi-planer forces may align or compress two or more bone fragments. The staple may also include a hole and/or a notch for receiving or connecting with a faster.
