摘要: A handwriting capture system includes a portable electronic tablet that capture pen strokes made on a standard pad of paper and transfer the captured pen strokes to a digital image capture device such as a personal data assistant or PDA using infrared communications circuitry. The portable electronic tablet is battery powered, and the handwriting capture system includes an infrared activated power switch to extend the useful lifetime of the battery by power up the electronic tablet and infrared communications circuitry only when the system is in use and otherwise by powering off the electronic tablet and much of the communications circuitry, in a manner that is entirely transparent to the user. An IR activity detector remains powered up when the system generally is powered off, and also furnishes power to at least the receiver section of the IR transceiver. When infrared activity occurs, the receiver section indicates that a signal has been received and the IR activity detector responds by signaling a switched power supply to apply normal operating power to the system.

摘要: A distributed services modular client architecture may be used to implement IP-based real time communication services in a flexible manner among a wide variety of different types of chip sets and systems-on-chip. The various services are distributed among one or more processor cores in accordance with a number of factors, including power consumption, media latency, on-time, performance, and other considerations. A processor “core” may refer to a processor itself if single core, and may also refer to a “core” of a multicore processor. The architecture uses a SIP/IMS framework, and is modularized by placing certain services into their own framework so that a particular service may be plugged into the SIP/IMS framework if and when desired, and otherwise omitted. The frameworks may be installed on various processor cores within the chip set or system-on-chip to allow for more effective power conservation without unduly sacrificing performance.

摘要: A computer system includes a computing device such as a microcontroller and a memory device. The memory device is illustratively a serial device connected to the serial port of the microcontroller. The memory device includes a page latch load circuit which provides serial I/O to the microcontroller and transfers I/O bits in a predetermined order to/from the page latches. Page latches are connected over many bit lines to a memory cell array. The page latches not only supports programming and reading of sectors in the memory cell array, but also provides one or more of the following functions: directly accessible to the microcontroller as an SRAM scratch pad, directly loadable from the memory cell array to facilitate single byte "read-modify-write" operations, and loadable during programming operations to support real time applications.

摘要: The techniques described herein facilitate the reliable and widespread communication of information in support of various types of transactions at various types of facilities using personal electronic devices, which are electronic devices that can be easily carried on the person. Personal electronic devices may be enabled to access and communicate information using Near Field Communications (“NFC”), as well as to communicate information to bar code scanners by emitting light that simulates a reflection of a scanning beam being moved across a static visual image of a bar code. Such a personal electronic device may be used for transactions both at the relatively uncommon facilities which have the newer NFC systems as well as the many facilities which have the older bar code scanners, thereby enhancing its value to its user. Moreover, NFC and light-simulated bar codes may be used cooperatively on a personal electronic device to enable a variety of novel and useful methods of communicating information.

摘要: A magnetic media hard disk is emulated in a solid state hard disk having a disk controller, a data buffer, a microcontroller, and a disk emulator section. The disk emulator section includes a disk emulator interface and a memory array. The architecture of the memory array includes a number of memory banks which typically correspond to respective sectors of the emulated hard disk, but could correspond to respective groups of sectors of the emulated hard disk. Each of the memory banks has its own serial data line and its own serial clock line, and include a number of serial memory devices that connect to the bank serial data line and bank clock line with respective serial data and clock lines. Each of the serial memory devices also has a static address corresponding to a head address of the emulated hard disk. At any given time, one of the memory banks is selected by activation of its clock line based on the sector addressed, and one of the serial memory devices in the bank responds based on a comparison of its static address with head address data communicated on the serial data line. Other features described include serial memory device start sequences and bad bit replacement.

摘要: The note capture device enables a user of any type of image capture device to enjoy the advantages of handwritten notes while having access to the power and flexibility offered by standalone as well as networked computing devices for information storage, retrieval, modification, and communication. The major elements of the note capture device are a housing which contains preferably an electromagnetic digitizer tablet, a small notepad such as a Post-it® Notes product or a small paper pad overlying the region of the housing that contains the digitizer tablet, a pen that works in conjunction with the electromagnetic digitizer tablet in the housing, and a wireless or wired connection to a host computer. The notepad has a removable paper writing surface and the pen includes an inked tip of any desired type so that the user experiences a comfortable and familiar feel of pen/pencil on paper as he or she writes on the notepad. The host computer runs an image capture application that captures the pen strokes from the note capture devices and displays them on the screen in a virtual note. The image capture application also is able to post virtual notes on documents created by other programs, including word processors and memoboard applications, and to create note files. The notes are available to the user or may be shared with other users.
