摘要: A pesticide and a method of using the pesticide to kill invertebrates, especially insects, arachnids and larvae. The method is to prepare a mixture of a carrier with the pesticide and apply the mixture to the insects, arachnids and larvae and their habitat. The pesticide is a neurotransmitter affector utilizing octopamine receptor sites in the insects, arachnids and larvae. The affector agent is a chemical having a six membered carbon ring having substituted thereon at least one oxygenated functional group. The affector agent is a chemical component of a plant essential oil and is naturally occurring. Deposition of the chemicals of the present invention on a surface provides residual toxicity for up to 30 days. Various carriers for the affector agent are disclosed. The chemicals of the present invention deter feeding of insects, arachnids and larvae and also retard growth of the larvae of the insects and arachnids.

摘要: A non-invasive, external ear canal electrode and connector therefor useful for transmitting sound stimulus to an ear canal and for conducting electrical signals picked up from the ear canal epidermal surface. The electrode comprises an electro-conductive tube having resilient plastic foam elements attached to the end to be placed in the ear. One foam element is electro-conductive and impregnated with an electrolytically conductive medium, and the cells of the other sound absorbing elements are filled with air.

摘要: A chymopapain derivative having the enzymatic activity reduced by at least 95% while retaining the original allergenic activity of at least 90% is suitable for skin testing to detect allergic hypersensitivity to chymopapain and for treating patients exhibiting allergic hypersensitivity to chymopapain. The enzymatic activity can be blocked by reacting thiol groups of the enzyme with and iodoacetic acid, bromoacetic acid, or a salt, ester or amide derivative thereof, under conditions which block the undesirable enzymatic activity while retaining the desired allergenic activity.

摘要: A portable device for accurately metering a liquid for intravenous or enteric infusion into a patient's body in which the pressure from a pressure source is utilized to pressurize the liquid and the pressurized liquid becomes the sole driving force to meter and to infuse the liquid into the body. The pressurized liquid is applied alternately to one of a pair of flexible liquid bladders the other one being connected to a discharge device such as a tube so that, as one liquid bladder is filled with pressurized liquid, the other bladder is emptied into the patient. The expanding liquid bladder and the contracting liquid bladder cooperate with a teeter totter type control which applies pressure to the contracting liquid bladder and is damped to control the rate of expansion and contraction. The position of the teeter totter controls the valving for applying pressurized fluid from one side to the opposite by alternatively selecting channels of fluid flow to each liquid bladder. The angular motion of the teeter totter is controlled by a pair of flexible damping bladders connected through an adjustable constant flow valve which is disposed on the side of the teeter totter opposite the liquid bladders.
