摘要: This disclosure relates to a method for the control or repellency of biting arthropods. The method comprises bringing the biting arthropods into contact with a biting arthropod repellent formulation. The biting arthropod repellent formulation comprises nootkatone in combination, or in synergistic combination, with skin or plant derived compounds and compounds structurally similar to them (e.g., ketones, cyclic ketones, esters, gamma or delta lactones, and branched and/or unsaturated carboxylic acids), and/or one or more repellents selected from the group consisting of DEET®, para-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), Picaridin, ethyl 3-[acetyl(butyl)amino]propanoate (IR3535), and other nitrogen-containing repellents including amines, amides, and nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds. This disclosure also relates to a biting arthropod repellent formulation comprising nootkatone in combination, or in synergistic combination, with the skin or plant derived compounds and compounds structurally similar to them, and/or the one or more repellents.

摘要: A method of enhancing the growth of an animal is provided. The method includes causing the animal to ingest or absorb an effective amount of one or more Fe III complex compounds, including but not limited to Fe III complexes comprising ligands bound to the iron centre selected from amino acids or α-hydroxy acids, o-hydroxy benzoic acids or pyridine-2-carboxylic acids, such as ferric quinate, ferric tyrosine, ferric DOPA and ferric phenylalanine. Compounds which are structural and/or functional variants, derivatives and/or analogs of the foregoing compounds, as further described herein are also disclosed. Methods for inhibiting, reducing, or preventing biofilm formation or buildup on a surface; the treatment of, inhibition of growth of, and inhibition of colonization by, bacteria, both in biological and non-biological environments; disinfecting surfaces, potentiating the effects of antibiotics and other anti-microbial agents, and increasing the sensitivity of bacteria and other microorganisms, to anti-microbial agents are also provided.

The compounds are carotenoid oxidation products, and a preferred example is 3-OH-β-apo-13-Carotenone. A method comprising promoting the growth of at least one plant with use of an effective amount of at least one composition comprising an effective amount of at least one compound which is represented by A-B-C, wherein B is a bivalent polyene moiety, A is a monovalent moiety linked to B by a six-membered carbon ring, wherein the ring has at least one substituent linked to the ring by an oxygen atom, and C is a monovalent moiety linked to B by a carbonyl group. Synergistic effects can be used with combinations of compounds.

The present embodiments also provide methods and compositions for reducing microbes on a surface, methods, and compositions for preventing and reducing infectious vegetative bacteria on a substrate, and methods and compositions for treating a wound. In particular, compositions of the invention provide for a mixture of an α-keto peracid and a non α-keto peracid that works synergistically to reduce microbes on a surface, to prevent vegetative bacteria on a surface and to heal a wound in animals or humans.
