    Abstract: In a charger, a plurality of rows of air openings are provided in a shield member. The rows are elongated in the longitudinal direction of stretched corona wires and each of the rows has a plurality of air openings. The air openings are arranged in such a manner that the numbers of the air openings in opposition to the same corona wire in the nearest position are the same when counted in the direction vertical to the length of the corona wire. As a result, soiled portions in the corona wires produced by air streams passing through the air openings are uniformly distributed throughout the whole length of the charger and each part of the charger has substantially the same charging power.

    Abstract: An image processing system includes a main image processing unit and an auxiliary unit detachably attached to the main image processing unit. The auxiliary unit includes a first drive source. The main unit on the other hand includes a second drive source and a mechanism for transporting a sheet. These drive sources are so operated that when the auxiliary unit is attached to the main unit the transporting mechanism is powered by the first drive source in the auxiliary unit and when the auxiliary unit is not attached to the main unit the transporting mechanism is powered by the second drive source in the main unit.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus has an image bearing member rotatable in a specified direction, a developing roller for supplying developing material to a latent image formed on the image bearing member, a spacing roller rotatably supported on a shaft of the developing roller and making contact with the edge of the image bearing member in the axial direction, and a seal member having a portion that contacts the image bearing member on the upstream side of the developing roller in the direction of rotating and a portion that contacts the image bearing member on the developing roller side. The spacing roller forms the desired developing gap between the surface of the developing roller and the surface of the image bearing member. The seal member sweeps the surface of the image bearing member so as to mainly prevent the adhesion to the spacing roller of the airborne toner which is in the vicinity of the surface of the image bearing member and the surface of the developing roller. Further, the toner adhering to the surface of the image bearing member is cleaned therefrom by the seal member before the toner reaches the spacing roller. Thus, the precision of the developing gap can be maintained in the desired condition over a long period of time.
