Abstract:
A method of detecting onset of a gas turbine condition, such as compressor stall, includes receiving data indicative of an operating parameter of a compressor of the gas turbine. The method also includes performing a wavelet transformation on the data to generate wavelet transformed data. The wavelet transformation is configured to affect a processing characteristic regarding a performance of the wavelet transformation. Features indicative of onset of the gas turbine condition in the wavelet transformed data are then identified to provide an indication for controlling the gas turbine to prevent compressor stall from occurring. A system for detecting onset of compressor stall in a gas turbine includes a sensor for providing data indicative of an operating parameter of the compressor and a processor for performing a wavelet transform on the data to identify features of the optimized wavelet transformed data indicative of onset of stall.
Abstract:
A method and system for detecting precursors to compressor stall and surge in which at least one compressor parameter is monitored to obtain raw data representative of said at least one compressor parameter. The raw data is pre-processed using a frequency demodulator to produce pre-processed data, and the pre-processed raw data is post-processed using a Kalman filter to obtain stall precursors.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring performance of a gas turbine system comprises providing a plurality of combustor cans; placing a plurality of temperature sensors circumferentially around an exhaust plane of the plurality of combustor cans; operating the plurality of combustor cans while varying a plurality of gas turbine operating parameters, where exhaust gas issues from each combustor can of the plurality of combustor cans during operation; measuring temperature of the exhaust gas in the exhaust plane using the plurality of temperature sensors to obtain a plurality of individual temperature measurements; determining a correlation of the individual temperature measurements of exhaust gas temperature with corresponding individual combustor cans of the plurality of combustor cans issuing the exhaust gas; and developing a swirl model, where the model uses the correlation to predict swirl values in the exhaust plane as a function of the operating parameters.

Abstract:
An apparatus for monitoring the health of a compressor having at least one sensor operatively coupled to the compressor for monitoring at least one compressor parameter, a processor system embodying a stall precursor detection algorithm, the processor system operatively coupled to the at least one sensor, the processor system computing stall precursors. A comparator is provided to compare the stall precursors with predetermined baseline data, and a controller operatively coupled to the comparator initiates corrective actions to prevent a compressor surge and stall if the stall precursors deviate from the baseline data, the baseline data representing predetermined level of compressor operability.
