Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to methods for treating cancer. In one respect, the present invention relates to a method of treating a hematological cancer (e.g., multiple myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma) comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a histone deacetylase inhibitor, for example, a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor as described herein, for example, PXD-101. In another respect, the present invention relates to a method of treating cancer (e.g., solid tumour cancer, e.g., rectal cancer, colon cancer, ovarian cancer; hematological cancer, e.g., multiple myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma) comprising administering to a patient in need thereof, a first amount of a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, for example, a histone deacetylase inhibitor as described herein, for example, PXD-101, and a second amount of an other chemotherapeutic agent, for example, an other chemotherapeutic agent selected from: an antibody against VEGF, Avastin®, an antibody against CD20, rituximab, bortezomib, thalidomide, dexamethasone, vincristine, doxorubicin, and melphalan, wherein the first and second amounts together comprise a therapeutically effective amount.
Abstract:
An LED light source including a plurality of LED dies, a corresponding number of heat sinks each having an integral light reflector on which a die is mounted, and a dielectric substrate on one side of which the heat sinks are contiguously mounted in spaced apart relationship with the light reflector remote the dielectric substrate. The heat sinks each include an island of material having high thermal conductivity and of sufficient thickness to ensure that heat generated in the die is distributed substantially uniformly over a contact region between the substrate and the heat sink.
Abstract:
A packaged article, especially a respiring foodstuff such as cheese which generates or releases gas during storage, and a permeable multilayer biaxially oriented film suitable for allowing escape of such gas while minimizing transfer of oxygen across the film which has a thin layer of a blend of EVOH and nylon. In a preferred embodiment the low cost film having a high permeability to CO2 and low O2 permeability is used to package cheese.
Abstract:
An identity confirmation device comprises a token issuer 4 and an authentication device 5, the token issuer being programmable by a central identity provider 2 to issue certification tokens for use in e-commerce whereby transactions can be certified with suppliers without need for additional communication with a central server.

Abstract:
A point electromagnetic radiation source apparatus (200) for fluorescence microscopy comprises an array of individually unpackaged light emitting diodes. A lightguide (102) is coupled to the array of individually unpackaged light emitting diodes (202) by abutment, the lightguide having a coupling window (210) that receives electromagnetic radiation emitted by the array of individually unpackaged 10 light emitting diodes (202).
Abstract:
In a transaction authorisation arrangement a sales point (1) (an electronic point of sale device or a vending machine, for example) communicates with a transaction application (2) transmitting thereto a transaction value. The telephony platform (3) reserves one of a series of premium rate numbers (5) which can be dialled up by a mobile telephone user to authorise the charging of the transaction against the telephone bill. When a call is received at the premium rate number the telephony platform notifies the transaction application which then authorises the sale.
