    摘要: An image recording apparatus records an image on a recording medium by causing a recording head having an arrangement of a plurality of recording elements to conduct its main scanning for the recording medium interrelatedly in the direction opposite to the arrangement of the recording elements. The apparatus comprises a setting device to set the number of main scannings by the recording head; a main scanning device to perform recording by plural numbers of main scannings with respect to one pixel by causing the recording head to conduct its main scannings for the same recording area of the recording medium in accordance with the number set by the setting device; and a sub-scanning device to cause the recording head and the recording medium to be sub-scanned interrelatedly per main scanning in an amount smaller than the width of the arrangement of the recording elements of the recording head. Hence, even if a disabled ejection occurs in one scanning at the time of recording by a multi-scanning, the missing dot is complemented by the following scan to make it possible to obtain an image having no image defects at all times.

    摘要: When an image is to be printed by the so-called multi-scanning method where image data corresponding to one band width is printed by a printhead scanning for a plurality of times, masking is performed on the image data in each of the scanning operation, and an image is printed on the basis of the masked image data. In such manner, pixels printed in each scanning form an image corresponding to one-scanning data (one band width of the data). At the time of printing by multi-scanning, a preliminary pulse is added prior to a driving pulse which drives the printhead so that the density of the image printed by multi-scanning is not decreased. In addition to changing such driving condition of the printhead, the density of the image data outputted to the printhead may be changed.

The apparatus comprises a conveyor for conveying the recording medium to a recording region where a platen is disposed, a detector for detecting a floating amount and/or a floating angle of the recording medium with respect to the platen, and a selector for selecting either a first mode to continue the recording operation by varying the distance between the recording device and the recording medium in accordance with the detected result of the detector or a second mode to stop the recording operation. According to such a recording apparatus, it is possible to perform a high-quality recording operation since the distance between the recording head and the recording medium can be kept optimum.
