Abstract:
An electronic device includes a base, a touch-sensitive display moveable relative to the base, piezo actuators disposed between the base and the touch-sensitive display, the piezo actuators including a first piezo actuator and a second piezo actuator spaced from the first piezo actuator, and a controller configured to control the piezo actuators to alternately actuate the first piezo actuator and the second piezo actuator and apply forces to the touch-sensitive display, thereby causing the touch-sensitive display to pivot relative to the base.
Abstract:
A method, performed by a user equipment (UE), for transmitting Buffer Status Reporting (BSR) information from the UE to a base station (BS) in a wireless telecommunication network, includes storing data to be transmitted, via a logical channel, in a transmission buffer, the logical channel being provided with a priority level and a specific Prioritized Bit Rate (PBR) parameter indicating a resource level to allocate to the UE for transmitting the stored data, wherein the BSR information represents an amount of data present in the transmission buffer of the UE, receiving new uplink data belonging to a logical channel for which no data already existed in the UE transmission buffer, and transmitting Buffer Status Reporting information upon receipt of the new uplink data.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for rendering on a display of an electronic device a pre-corrected image of an original image to compensate for a visual impairment of a user of the device, such that the pre-corrected image when displayed on the display would be perceived by the user to be in better optical focus than the user would perceive a display of the original image. The method includes receiving hardware characteristics of the display, receiving at least one parameter describing the visual impairment of the user, receiving at least one parameter describing the conditions under which the display is seen by the user, calculating a pupil function, calculating a Point Spread Function (PSF), calculating a pre-corrected image corresponding to at least a portion of the original image to compensate for the visual impairment of the user, and rendering on the display the pre-corrected image.
Abstract:
There is a method for enhancing the recovery of oil from a reservoir. The method has the step of a) introducing a flooding fluid into the reservoir and b) extracting the oil through a wellbore at a location different than the point of introduction of the flooding fluid into the reservoir. The flooding fluid has water and an amount of one or more non-polymeric viscoelastic surfactants sufficient to provide an interfacial surface tension of about 1 mNm or less and a viscosity of about 10 cps or more. The one or more surfactants is selected from the group of one or more cationic surfactants, one or more zwitterionic surfactants, one or more amphoteric surfactants, one or more anionic surfactants, and combinations thereof.

Abstract:
A cooking appliance includes a main cavity and a ventilation system. A cavity vent extends between the cooking appliance and the ventilation system such that the ventilation system is in fluid communication with the main cavity to expel an exhaust of gases. A chimney is connected above the cavity vent and includes venturi zone therein, wherein the cavity vent is coupled to the chimney at the venturi zone.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for treating fumes generated during the production, conversion and/or handling of oil-based products and a device for carrying out said method. The invention further relates to the use of the method or device in which the trapping device comprises at least one fluidised bed of granular material in the preparation of a granular material for use in production of road materials.
Abstract:
A discharger mechanism is provided for discharging solids from the bottom of a pile. The discharger comprises a reciprocating stoker rod of a substantially rectangular cross section and plastimeric bearing member engaging the bottom and sides of the rod for vertically supporting and horizontally guiding the rod. A reciprocating device reciprocates the rectangular stoker rod longitudinally beneath the pile. A plurality of stoker cross bars are equispaced apart and rigidly attached at their centers to the rectangular stoker rod. A further bearing member bears against the top of rod to prevent the rod from lifting.
Abstract:
There is provided an apparatus for battery life estimation comprising an energy harvester; an energy storage apparatus, connected to the energy harvester, the energy storage apparatus representative of a unit of measure; a battery for receiving energy from the storage apparatus; and a processor for monitoring the energy provided by the storage apparatus, monitoring energy provided to the battery by other charging apparatus and monitoring the energy being delivered by the battery; wherein the processor calculates the remaining life of the battery based on the number of energy storage apparatus units that are provided to and delivered from the battery.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a low power wakeup detection circuit and a portable electronic device having a low power wakeup detection circuit. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a portable electronic device, comprising: a housing; a controller received within the housing; a touch-sensitive display having a touch-sensitive overlay, the touch-sensitive display being mechanically constrained by the housing; at least one force sensing transducer located below the touch-sensitive display on an opposite side to the touch-sensitive overlay, the at least one force sensing transducer being connected to the controller and measuring forces applied to the touch-sensitive display; wherein the controller is configured for: initiating a sleep mode from a full power mode in response to a trigger; when in the sleep mode, reading force data measured by the at least one force sensing transducer at a reduced duty cycle relative to the full power mode, comparing the force data to a wakeup force threshold, and returning to the full power mode from the sleep mode when the force data is greater than the wakeup force threshold.
