Abstract:
Communications method including the procedures of modulating a second generation carrier signal, with a first generation Baseband bandwidth signal, when transmitting to first generation devices, and, modulating the second generation carrier signal, with a second generation Baseband bandwidth signal, when transmitting to second generation devices, wherein the first generation Baseband bandwidth signal, is shaped so as to recreate a first generation signal, when up-sampled and modulated with a second generation carrier signal.
Abstract:
A method includes transmitting a next transmission after an inter-frame period after a previous transmission, wherein the inter-frame period is long enough to allow a return signal responding to the previous transmission. A network device includes a receiver to receive a transmission from a source device and a transmitter at least to transmit a return signal to the source device indicating successful receipt or lack thereof of the transmission during a return period forming part of an inter-frame period after the transmission.

Abstract:
A power line communication device includes a power line communication unit, a sensor to sense a physical connection to a second power line communication device other than via a powerline medium and a pairing unit to receive an indication of a physical connection between the power line communication device and the second power line communication device and to initiate a pairing process with the second power line communication device. A method of pairing communication devices which communicate along a non-data-cable medium includes sensing a data cable connection with a second device, entering an appropriate pairing state upon sensing the data cable connection, the pairing state being either an add device state or a join device state and performing pairing with the second device along the non-data-cable connection.

Abstract:
A network device includes a HomePNA modem and means for synchronizing its clock with clocks of other HomePNA modems in the network in order to communicate at a higher frequency band. In one embodiment, the synchronization is with pilot signals. In another, it is by correcting for clock differences. The upconversions may be via oversampling or via analog mixing. The downconversions may be via subsampling or via analog demixing.
