摘要: A combined force- and temperature-sensing array includes an array of drive plates, an array of sense plates corresponding the drive plates, and a layer of dielectric material separating the drive and sense plates. A diode with a forward junction voltage is connected between at least one of the drive plates and at least one of the sense plates. A multiplexer is operative to select between an electrical pulse or an electrical current for delivery to the at least one drive plate. Circuitry is provided for sensing an applied force resulting from a change in capacitance between the at least one drive plate and the at least one sense plate when the electrical pulse is delivered, and for sensing a temperature resulting from a change in the forward junction voltage of the diode when the current is delivered. The sensor array may be provided as a shoe insert for diabetics with neuropathy.

摘要: Systems and methods are disclosed for sensing forces, moments, temperature, inclination, acceleration and other parameters associated with prosthetic limbs. The system is capable of measuring forces in three designated axes, and moments about the same designated axes, for a total of six possible degrees of freedom. The system can be readily fitted onto a conventional prosthetic limb with no, or relatively minor, modification thereto. A plurality of sensor arrays are disposed on a support member, each array including a plurality of strain gauge sensors, each sensor outputting an electrical signal responsive to loading imposed on the support member through the prosthetic limb. Electronic circuitry in communication with the gauges is operative to receive the electrical signals from the strain gauges and provide a signal useful in the form, fit or function of the prosthetic limb.

摘要: A foot insertion device to enable an athlete to very quickly don biking or running shoes while participating in a multievent sport such as swimming, biking and running triathons. The device comprises a plurality of shoe heel retaining sockets with compressible foam pad supports under the shoes. A "foot funnel" of flexible material guides the athlete's foot into a shoe. Each shoe is held open by the foot funnel and by hook and loop straps that hold the tongue in an open retracted position. The back of the shoe heel is held in position in the device by hook and loop fasteners which detach in a controlled manner. The foam pad compresses in a controlled manner also, the combination operating together to assure that the athlete's foot is completely in the shoe before the athlete moves the shoe out of the device.

摘要: A platform weight scale comprising a capacitative load cell sensing means configured to be insensitive to off center loading of the horizontal platform regardless of load amount or location on the platform. The platform is supported by a plurality of springs selected for equal spring rates. The load cell is electrically connected into a FET (Field Effect Transistor), CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) or Bi-Polar semiconductor multivibrator circuit selected and designed to sense electric currents on the order of 10.sup.-13 amperes. In one preferred embodiment the load cell comprises a grounded hemispherical surface opposing a flat charged plate. In alternate embodiments the load cell comprises a differential capacitor or a parallel plate capacitor suspended in a manner that is insensitive to off center loading. An additional embodiment for the load cell comprises a spherically concave surface opposing the above grounded hemispherical surface.A method for two point calibration of the scale without the use of calibration weights is provided. The method provides for weighing the empty weight table or platform for the zero point, weighing the scale without the platform and without disassembly by turning upside down and then recalibrating the scale at the two points or settings. The differential capacitor load cell embodiment utilizes an alternatin switch circuit as a part of the multivibrator circuit. As a third alternative, a frequency modulated system clock circuit that is modulated by the load cell capacitance or differential capacitance may be utilized as the weight sensing circuit and driver for peripheral attachments to the scale circuit.

摘要: Improved circuits minimize, or eliminate, energy losses in LED lighting. Diodes and a capacitor reduce or eliminate blinking and create smooth and continuous infinitely variable dimming. The components supply power to each LED during the half of the AC cycle where it would normally be turned off. Added diodes allow an added capacitor to charge during the half cycle that the original diode is turned on, but does not allow the other half cycle to discharge the added capacitor. When the added capacitor is charged enough to turn on the original diode, it stays on throughout the AC cycle. Zener diodes protect the LEDs from voltage surge's/spikes by shunting current around LEDs when the voltage exceeds the Zener diode's breakdown voltage. A microprocessor controller with MOSFETs provides an ultra efficient embodiment with near zero power dissipation.

摘要: A new capacitive sensor array comprises a first plurality of conductors separated by a compressible insulator from a second plurality of conductors lying in a second plane parallel to the first plane. The second plurality of conductors are paired to partially overlap the first plurality of conductors, two by one in sets, whereby a shear force applied in a plane parallel to the conductor array will cause capacitance between the first and second conductors to change. Serially sampling the two by one sets for changes in capacitance provides information on both the magnitude and direction of shear. Moreover, forces applied perpendicular to the planes causes the insulator to compress, thus also changing the capacitances of the two by one sets of the sensor array. In the preferred embodiment, the imbalance of voltages between the paired conductors is applied to a differential amplifier to sense shear magnitude and direction. Compression force appears as an increase in peak voltage magnitude in both of the paired conductors.

摘要: A microprocessor-based electronic timekeeping apparatus or stopwatch for measuring multiple intervals of time, such as the elapsed times of a race horse covering successive distances of a race course, is disclosed. This hand-holdable, self-contained stopwatch has four multiple-digit display fields for simultaneously displaying up to four measured intervals of time preferably in minutes, seconds and fractions of a second. In a first mode of operation, the stopwatch is used to measure and display four overlapping intervals of time having a common starting time and different stopping times. In a second mode of operation, the stopwatch is used to measure multiple intervals of time which have an operator-determined untimed period between successive intervals. The stopwatch includes additional display fields for indicating the mode of operation and the specific intervals of time being displayed. It also includes internal memory so previously measured and displayed intervals of elapsed time can be stored and displayed later. Preferred methods of operating the stopwatch are also disclosed.
