    Abstract: Toilet bowl detergent compositions, preferably blocks of the "in-tank" or "rim-block" types, contain a cleaning system comprising: detergent surfactant of the amphoteric type, preferably zwitterionic, more preferably one that contains a carboxylate group and a cationic group, and even more preferably a fatty acid amidoalkylene betainc, and polycarboxylate chelating agent, preferably, citric acid, or similar polycarboxylic acid, are combined with some means of creating the desired concentration of the cleaning system in the toilet bowl water, preferably by means of blocks with a dissolution retarding system, preferably with the dissolution retarding system comprising a combination of water soluble cellulosic polymer, more preferably hydroxyethyl cellulose or hydroxypropyl cellulose and, polyethylene glycol containing polymer, any perfume present being selected to be mostly hydrophobic. The compositions have a pH, in use, of from about 4 to about 9 and the blocks are preferably extremely homogeneous. Processes for keeping toilet bowls clean are disclosed.

    Abstract: Detergent compositions comprising a surfactant system that is either (1) a mixture of zwitterionic detergent surfactant and/or amphoteric (non-zwitterionic) detergent surfactant with nonionic detergent surfactant; or (2) short chain nonionic detergent surfactant; a suds reducing amount of a suds controlling alkoxylated material of the formula: C.sub.n (PO).sub.x (EO).sub.y (PO).sub.z in which C.sub.n is a hydrocarbon group containing, n carbon atoms, n is a number from about 6 to about 12, x is a number from about 1 to about 6, y is a number from about 4 to about 15, and z is a number from about 4 to about 25; optional, but preferred, hydrophobic cleaning solvent; and polycarboxylate, especially dicarboxylate, detergent builder, provide superior cleaning of all of the soils commonly found in the bathroom while maintaining a desirable low suds profile and good rinsing properties. The compositions have a pH of from about 1 to about 5.5, preferably from about 2 to about 4 when the dicarboxylate builder is used. The compositions are in the form of aqueous liquids.

The compositions have a pH of from about 1 to about 5.5, preferably from about 2 to about 4 when the dicarboxylate builder is used. The compositions are in the form of aqueous liquids.     Abstract: A shortening for preparing moist, light and tender cakes is disclosed. The shortening comprises a fat or oil and an emulsifier which consists essentially of from about 10% to about 20% of propylene glycol mono-fatty acid esters and from about 3% to about 20% of hydrophilic polyglycerol ester (percentages are based on the weight in the shortening). The ratio of polyglycerol ester to propylene glycol monoester is about from about 2:1 to 7:1. This shortening system can be used in preparing baking mixes. Surprisingly, even in an add-oil preparation the cake is moist yet light and tender.
