    摘要: Improved DC cancellation in zero-IF receivers for eliminating the DC offset that otherwise would be caused by the AC voltage on a coupling capacitor at the time of switching from AC coupling to DC coupling. The coupling capacitor normally is connected first as a high pass filter to block any DC component, and then directly coupled as a direct or DC coupler. However any AC component of voltage on the coupling capacitor at the moment of switching normally remains as a DC offset. In accordance with the invention, the component of AC voltage on a coupling capacitor is tracked, and when switched to DC coupling, the component of AC voltage on the capacitor at the time of switching is held and subtracted from the signal path, thereby canceling the DC offset component that otherwise would be caused. Alternate embodiments are disclosed, including embodiments for accelerating capacitance charging for speed-up of the method.

The present invention employs a digital signal processor along with multiple phase shifters and all pass networks to ensure proper levels of quadrature signals within the transceiver. An internally generated double sideband suppressed carrier signal is created to produce the calibration signals used by the digital signal processor.

According to a particular embodiment, an analog correlator receives the down-converted in-phase and quadrature-phase outputs from the radio section and determines when a received signal is coming up at or near a given noise level. A control circuit is coupled to the correlator to selectively activate flash A/D converters in the digital receiver portion of the baseband processor. The analog correlator replaces the RSSI for “sniffing” whether a received signal is present.

    摘要: A zero intermediate frequency radio device has an antenna for receiving a radio frequency signal, and a frequency down converter for down converting the received radio frequency signal to a zero intermediate frequency signal. The radio device further has controllable amplifier stages, controllable AC-coupling stages, controllable filter stages, and a received signal strength indicator. A signal resolving range of the received signal strength indicator is below a high dynamic range of the received radio frequency signal. The radio device further has an automatic gain controller. The automatic gain controller initially sets the gain of the Rx path of the radio device to a maximum of minimum gain, and then waits for DC-offsets in the Rx path to cancel. If, at maximum or minimum gain, a reading of the received signal strength indicator is within a particular range, the automatic gain controller sets the gain to the reading. Then, automatic gain control settles. If this is not the case, the gain of the Rx path is stepwise decreased or increased, while repeating the DC-offset cancellation step of waiting for the DC-offset to cancel, until the reading of the received signal strength indicator falls in the signal resolving range around the then set gain of the Rx path.

The excitation matrix can be a Hadamard matrix or a modified Hadamard matrix and can comprise a cyclic extension at the end of each row. A different region-specific phase shift can be applied to different clusters of signals.

It is also used for robust tamper detection and for monitoring liquid medication consumption accurately. In another embodiment, Complimentary code based phase encoding of the subcarrier phases is used to reduce the peak to average power of the OFDM signal, thereby enabling higher transmit power of the audio signal to mitigate against interference. A suitable wireless device can be co-located with the mixed signal electronics for sending the bottle usage, medication reminder alarm, and tamper status to the medication compliance monitoring system or to the user's cell phone. In some embodiments of the patent, electrical capacitance sensing is used to determine if the bottle is opened or closed.

    摘要: This invention describes how to quickly cancel DC offsets that are present in the two quadrature paths of a zero intermediate frequency transceiver. Previously known techniques are not suitable for the 5 GHz WLAN standards because of the very short transmit to receive turn around times and extraordinarily large dc offsets in these systems. This invention solves the above problems. The present invention uses both AC and DC coupling along with automatic gain control techniques to remove unwanted DC offsets within an acceptable time period. The invention further uses a digital signal processor to estimate and subtract out the DC offset errors using time averaged signals. The digital signal processing circuit is capable of further AC filtering and Analog to Digital conversions.
