Abstract:
The present invention is a shoe sole comprising an array of elliptical cells, wherein each cell has a wall, and wherein each cell wall is conjoined to or contiguous with at least one other cell wall. The cell wall may be conjoined to another cell wall by a conjoining element. At least some of the cell walls buckle when compressive or shear force is applied during use. The sole is made from any material with elastic properties for this application. The shoe sole can further comprise a substrate, also made of elastomeric material, integrated with the cell walls at their upper level, lower level, or their periphery, forming a unitary piece. Variations can be made as to the dimensions and arrangement of these cell walls. This sole can be incorporated into a shoe sole assembly as a shoe midsole.
Abstract:
In a method of making a microstructured assembly, a substantially uniform coating of a curable material is formed on a substrate with the coating defining a leading edge. The coating is contacted with a mold starting at the leading edge to form in the curable material a plurality of barrier regions connected by intervening land regions. The curable material is cured and the mold is removed. Optionally, the coating includes a binder. Such a coating can optionally be debinded. In addition, the coating can be fired to form ceramic microstructures.
Abstract:
Multiple energy sources, such as a laser and electrical current, are employed, in close coordination, spatially and temporally, to clean a sample, vaporize its material and excite vapor atoms for the purpose of atomic emission spectroscopy. These methods permit better monitoring and control of the individual processes in real time, lead to higher consistency and higher quality optical emission spectra, and enhance the measurements of non-conducting solids, liquids and gases. Additionally, a portable instrument is provided with both laser source and spectrometer optically coupled to a hand-holdable unit.
Abstract:
A dual ovenable food tray having both high temperature resistance and superior food release properties is prepared by applying to at least one surface of a paperboard substrate an aqueous coating formulation comprising a styrene-acrylic latex having a low T.sub.g, a styrene-acrylic latex having a high T.sub.g or a mixture thereof, wherein the coating formulation preferably further comprises at least one additional component selected from coalescing solvents, thickening agents, defoaming agents, crosslinkers and wax emulsions.
Abstract:
In general, this disclosure is directed to techniques for remotely controlling a transmitter-side rate adaptation algorithm. According to one aspect, a method includes detecting, with a receiver device, that a packet received from a transmitter is corrupted. The method further includes sending, with the receiver device, a positive acknowledgement for the packet to the transmitter in response to at least detecting that the packet is corrupted. According to another aspect, a method includes determining, with a receiver device, a targeted outcome for a rate adaptation algorithm performed by a transmitter. The method further includes using, with the receiver device, positive acknowledgements to remotely control the rate adaptation algorithm performed by the transmitter based on at least the targeted outcome.
