摘要: A method for decoding data that has been encoded in a monochrome medium utilizing the capability of the medium for grayscale resolution. A document is processed to provide an image in electronic format, in which each pixel has an assigned data value with a given bit depth. A mapping operation is performed for generating a monochrome data word (120), preferably having a reduced bit depth. The monochrome data word (120) can be used to encode multiple data fields (114, 116, 118). A printer (92) then produces a preserved document record (90) in which the appropriate monochrome data word (120) determines the grayscale value for each pixel. To decode the stored data, a scanner (86) is employed to obtain the grayscale value from the preserved document record (90). For each pixel, the grayscale value is then decomposed into multiple data fields (114, 116, 118), which can then be decoded to provide the information that was originally encoded.

摘要: The invention provides a method of proving that a CD is an authorized original by utilizing a unique catalog code that is stored in a sub channel data stream on the CD that is derived using digital signature techniques. The inputs for the unique catalog code are derived from a digital signature algorithm and include, in the case of audio CD, each song's ISRC number, a bar code or unique identifier of the CD and the audio data content. To verify that the CD is not a copy, the original digital signature algorithm used at the time of recording to create the unique catalog code is applied to the audio data and ISRC codes recorded on the disc to derive a catalog code. An authorized original CD will have the same catalog code value stored in the subchannel as the catalog code derived from the digital signature algorithm. If the catalog codes do not match, the disc is determined to be an illegal copy.

摘要: In a digital image matching method, reference calibration data associated with one or more reference digital image files is ascertained. The reference digital image files each have reference calibration data that is hidden metadata and can also have public metadata that is readable by a different procedure. A test digital image file is obtained and a data structure capable of holding the reference calibration data is detected in the test digital image file. The presence of second calibration data within the data structure of the test digital image file is determined. If the reference and second calibration data match, then the test digital image file and reference digital image files are from the same digital acquisition device.
