    摘要: A pivot mount for a vehicular shift lever which precludes the play in the shift lever. The mount is employed in conjunction with a shift bowl that is rotatably mounted on a steering column. A clevis extends radially outwardly from the shift bowl, and the clevis has laterally spaced connecting plates. A bore penetrates each connecting plate. The bores through the connecting plates are registered. A shift lever having a mounting block is mounted from the clevis. The mounting block has laterally spaced, substantially parallel, first and second faces adapted to be embraced between the connecting plates. An aperture penetrates the mounting block and opens through the first and second faces to register with the bores through the connecting plates. A bushing assembly having an annular body portion with longitudinally spaced first and second rim edges is insertably received within the aperture which penetrates the mounting block. A pivot pin extends through not only the bores in the connecting plates but also the aperture through the mounting block. A pair of longitudinally resilient arms extends transversely outwardly from the first rim edge and are canted such that the distal end portions thereof are displaced toward the second rim edge. A slot extends between the first and second rim edges. The slot opens through the first rim edge between the resilient arms. A recess in the first face extends radially outwardly from the aperture through the mounting block and is adapted to receive the resilient arms.

    摘要: A mount for a rack and pinion steering gear on a body structure of a motor vehicle including a horizontal tubular boss on the steering gear parallel to a longitudinal centerline of the body structure, a tubular sleeve rigidly clamped to the body structure inside of the tubular boss having a pair of rigid flanges at opposite ends thereof, and an elastomeric bushing on the tubular sleeve between the rigid flanges. The elastomeric bushing has a tubular body bonded to the tubular sleeve and a plurality of integral linear splines compressed radially between the tubular sleeve and an inside cylindrical wall of the tubular boss. The linear splines flex resiliently to suppress the transfer of linear vibrations from the steering gear to the body structure. The angular separation between the linear splines controls the stiffness or reaction rate of the mount in a plurality of directions perpendicular to a longitudinal centerline of the tubular boss so that the mount can be constructed with relatively more compliance in directions which yield positive vehicle performance characteristics.

    摘要: A variable effort power steering gear including detent elements in radial sockets in a pinion head, detent grooves in a stem of a stub shaft, an annular low speed reaction piston on the pinion head engageable on the detent elements when the low speed piston moves in a first direction, and an annular high speed reaction piston on the pinion head engageable on the detent elements when the high speed piston moves in a second direction opposite the first direction. Low and high speed bias springs apply first and second bias forces against the low and high speed reaction pistons. A control effects a fluid pressure gradient across the high speed piston in a low speed range of the steering gear counter to the second bias force so that in the low speed range only the first bias force is operative to urge the detent elements into the detent grooves and in the high speed range both the first and the second bias forces are operative to urge the detent elements into the detent grooves.

    摘要: A variable effort automotive power steering gear including an input or stub shaft, an output shaft or pinion head, a torsion bar between the stub shaft and pinion head defining an open-center position of one relative to the other, and detent reaction apparatus between the stub shaft and pinion head. The detent reaction apparatus includes a radial socket in a cylindrical wall of the pinion head, a detent groove in a stem of the stub shaft in the cylindrical wall, an insert rotatably supported in the radial socket with an eccentric bore offset from the centerline of the radial socket, and a detent element slidably supported in the eccentric bore in the insert and having a spherical end adapted to seat in the detent groove. The spherical end of the detent element is centered in the detent groove by rotating the insert until the detent element is at an innermost radial position. The adjusted position of the insert is captured by an in-situ injection molded plastic retainer on the pinion head in a wide annular groove in an outside diameter of the cylindrical wall which engages an exposed cavity on the insert. The retainer has a pair of annular end walls facing in spaced relationship a pair of annular shoulders on the pinion head which form the sides of the wide annular groove. The annular shoulders and annular end walls cooperate in defining a pair of seal ring grooves on the pinion head.

    摘要: A valve for controlling the outlet pressure of a pump which supplies two systems. The valve permits flow through a first regulating portion to the primary system at a pressure equal to the secondary system pressure requirement. The secondary system preferably includes an accumulator and has an upper pressure requirement which is attained when the accumulator is filled. A second regulating portion of the control valve responds to secondary system pressure to permit bypassing of the first regulating portion when the secondary systems upper pressure requirement is satisfied. The second regulating portion closes when the lower limit is reached to permit refilling of the accumulator.
