Abstract: A rotary mechanical fluid seal for use in high pressure and/or high temperature environments, comprising a unitary structure adapted to cooperate with a rotating member and consisting of a cup having an inner shell with a shaft opening, a primary sealing ring having a sealing face engageable with a rotating member and slidably mounted in said housing, a secondary sealing element, fabricated from semi-resilient material, slidably engaging said primary sealing ring in fluid tight relationship and slidably engaging the inner shell or shaft in fluid tight relationship.

Abstract: This specification discloses a damping device for a bellows employed in a mechanical fluid seal. The seal comprises a mating and a sealing ring. One of said rings is anchored to a stationary housing with the other ring being drivably connected to a shaft rotatably mounted in the housing. A bellows is employed to urge one ring into engagement with the other ring. This invention relates to damping means and more specifically to means for removing the vibrations, dancing and gathering of the convolutions in a bellows employed in a mechanical fluid seal.

Abstract: This specification discloses a barrier seal in which the pressure of the fluid being sealed is opposed by the flow rate of a buffer fluid with a movable ring interposed between the two. This ring is movable axially under the influence of the differential which obtains between the pressures of the sealing fluid and buffer fluid. Appropriate passages are provided for the buffer fluid and seals are provided between the movable ring and the shaft and housing in which the barrier seal is installed.
