摘要: A method and apparatus for supplying conditioned air to a room. The method utilizes a plurality of partial flows and the flows are controlled to assure a substantially constant impulse while accommodating varying heating or cooling demand in the room. This is accomplished by providing a primary flow from one outlet and a secondary flow from another outlet. The speed of the secondary flow is low compared to the primary flow so that variation in the secondary flow as to condition to accommodate to the heating or cooling demand in the room has no substantial effect upon the total impulse which is determined substantially by the constant primary air flow. The two outlets may be supplied from the same duct and may be positioned separately or adjoining one another. The secondary flow is preferably controlled by a thermostat which is connected to a throttling control device.

摘要: Apparatus for supplying air from a high-pressure air duct to a room, for ventilation of the room. Air from the high-pressure source is passed through a set of nozzles spaced across the cross section of a flow chamber, the apertures of the nozzles being mutually spaced apart by a distance d and the aperture nearest the sidewalls of the chamber being spaced therefrom by substantially d/2. The length of the fluid chamber is at least 3 times d, and a grating is provided across its outlet end. In one embodiment, an adjustably-sized aperture is provided in a sidewall of the chamber near the nozzles to control the quantity of secondary air pulled into the chamber from the room, and hence the velocity of flow into the room. In another embodiment the chamber is a telescoping tube, adjustable to change the chamber length. The apparatus enables a smooth, nearly homogeneous, flow of air into the room, while permitting control of the velocity of air flow into the room, and without materially reacting on the high-pressure source of air.

摘要: A method and apparatus for making a continuous joint between the longitudinal marginal edges of co-planar sheets wherein the sheets are advanced into the apparatus in co-planar relation with their adjacent margins overlapped. At a first station, both margins are bent down to provide a space between the sheets. At the next station, one margin is bent back so that at its edge a down-turned lip engages the down-turned margin of the other sheet. At a following station, the latter margin is wrapped about the lip to form an interlocked seam, and at a final station, the seam is flattened against the first margin. The apparatus includes pressing rollers above and below the plane of the sheets, the upper and lower rolls being coupled together at the first station in the space formed between the sheets.

摘要: A system for air conditioning buildings in which the heat generated by the bulbs in lighting fixtures selectively is used to heat the room, or is carried away with the exhaust air. The system injects central air into the room adjacent the fittings, and exhaust air from the room is conducted away first through the outside window area and then through the lighting fixtures either in a path in direct contact with the bulbs or in a path bypassing direct contact with the bulbs. Dampers are provided to control the proportion of flow through the two paths in the fixtures and thereby to control the proportion of the heat generated by the bulbs which is used to heat the room on one hand and the portion which is discharged with the exhaust air on the other hand. The dampers are controlled in accordance with the demand for heat in the room and an auxiliary heater is provided for the injected air, for operation when the bulbs do not supply sufficient heat to maintain the desired temperature in the space.

摘要: Two contiguous conveyor belts for threading a pulp web tail through a dryer to avoid bunching and consequent tearing or cutting of the web tail by means of a paper tape such as those found on adding machines between the web and one belt. The paper tape allows relative slippage between one belt and the web tail so that the web does not have to try to conform with the local speed differences between the belts as they pass successively through direction reversing rolls.
