The second substrate is formed with an effective region and a non-effective region. The effective region includes a fluorescent layer for emitting light by collision with electrons emitted from the electron emission device. The non-effective region includes a region in which a light-shielding layer has a transparent conductive layer and a metal layer. The transparent conductive layer is formed in the effective region where the fluorescent layer is absent. The second substrate improves the brightness of light emitted from the fluorescent layer and prevents a power supply layer, to which a high voltage is applied, from being damaged, because the transparent conductive layer is not formed under the effective region.

An electron emission display comprising an electron collector or metal member is provided. The electron emission display comprises an electron emission substrate comprising at least one electron emission device and an image forming substrate comprising at least one emission region and at least one non-emission region. Images are formed in the emission regions by the collision of electrons emitted from the electron emission devices with the emission regions. The image forming substrate further comprises a metal layer positioned on at least the emission regions, and at least one electron collector positioned in the non-emission region. The electron collector may comprise first and second ends, wherein the first end is attached to the image forming substrate and the second end faces the electron emission substrate. The electron collector stabilizes the metal layer and fluorescent layers, thereby reducing arc and maintaining uniform brightness by re-directing scattered electrons toward the fluorescent layers.

A method for preparing a zinc sulfide phosphor having effective emission at low voltages. In the method for synthesizing a green-light emitting zinc sulfide based phosphor, ZnS:Cu, Al, which is applicable to a device operated with a low voltage, novel raw materials are employed. CuI is used as an activator, wherein monovalent copper (Cu1+) is complexed with ammonia and the ammonia complex is incorporated so as to uniformly distribute the activator in the mixture of raw materials. AlF3 is used as a co-activator, and, ZnI2 and NaI are added as iodide series fluxes. Thus, the color display characteristics are improved with a relatively high color purity and luminance.

The metallic reflection layer has spaced portions covering at least two of the phosphor layers and spaced away from the phosphor layers with an open gap therebetween, and contact portions not spaced away from the second substrate with an open gap therebetween.
