Abstract:
Example methods and apparatus to determine digital subscriber line (DSL) configuration parameters based on current and historical DSL performance characteristics are disclosed. A disclosed method includes obtaining first data representative of a current performance characteristic for a DSL modem, obtaining second data representative of a historical performance characteristic for the DSL modem, computing, at a maintenance server, a configuration parameter using the first and the second data, and reinitializing the DSL modem with the computed DSL configuration parameter when the computed configuration parameter has a value different from a previous value of the configuration parameter, wherein the DSL configuration parameter is computed prior to the reinitializing of the DSL modem.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to characterize a digital subscriber line (DSL) subscriber loop are disclosed. An example method comprises selecting a portion of a search space based on a measured transfer function response, the search space defining a plurality of combinations of transmission line parameters, and identifying a characterizing parameter of a digital subscriber line (DSL) subscriber loop from the selected portion of the search space, the characterizing parameter having an associated transfer function that substantially corresponds with the measured transfer function response.
Abstract:
A data collector combiner, a network management system, a DSL Optimizer (DSLO), or any combination thereof collects data, parameter(s), characteristic(s), information, or any combination thereof from two or more data sources. The data collector probabilistically combines at least the first and second data to estimate at least one DSL characterizing parameter.

Abstract:
A system and method for calculating a bandwidth requirement between two elements in a communications network are described. The method determines data stream information comprising a total number of data streams available for transmission within at least a portion of a communications network. Endpoint information is determined regarding a number of endpoints in the communications network associated with transmission stream information. Distribution information is determined wherein the distribution information is associated with transmission of the data streams to their end points. The method calculates the bandwidth between two elements in the communications network associated with a data stream demand using the data stream information, the endpoint information, and the distribution information.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to characterize customer-premises networks are disclosed. A disclosed example method comprises retrieving a first plurality of performance parameters for a first time interval for respective ones of a plurality of customer-premises devices, the first plurality of customer-premises devices forming a first customer-premises communication network and each communicatively coupled to a first residential gateway, retrieving a second plurality of performance parameters for a second time interval for the respective ones of the first plurality of devices, computing a first metric representative of a performance variability of the first customer-premises communication network from the first and second plurality of performance parameters, and comparing the first metric to a second metric representative of a second performance variability of a second customer-premises communication network communicatively coupled to a second residential gateway to determine whether the first customer-premises communication network is operating in accordance with a normal operating condition.
Abstract:
According to one example embodiment a storage medium having computer instructions which, responsive to being executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations. The operations can include analyzing data from data sources of an internet-protocol television network where the data provided by the data sources includes set-top-box data having voice over internet protocol usage for a plurality of subscribers of the internet protocol television network in a geographic area and correlating video provisioning information obtained from the data sources, individual subscriber channel viewing information, internet-usage data, subscriber data and demographic data to produce correlated information. The operations can include generating one or more reports associated with the plurality of subscribers in the geographic area based on the correlated information. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to determine digital subscriber line (DSL) configuration parameters based on current and historical DSL performance characteristics are disclosed. A disclosed method comprises obtaining first data representative of a current maximum attainable DSL speed for a telephone line, collecting second data representative of historical maximum attainable DSL speeds for the telephone line, and determining a maximum capable DSL speed for the telephone line based on the first and the second data.
Abstract:
In a particular embodiment, the present disclosure is directed to a data communications system. The data communication system includes a plurality of digital subscriber lines, a digital subscriber line multiplexer coupled to each of the plurality of digital subscriber lines; and a data switch coupled to the digital subscriber line multiplexer via a communication link. The data communications system is configured such that the number of digital subscriber line users supported by the digital subscriber line multiplexer is determined based on an estimated maximum number of users, the estimated maximum number of users determined based on an average peak bandwidth per user value, a data communication capacity of the communication link, and a data transmission slowdown indicator.
Abstract:
According to one example embodiment there is provided a computer program executable on a computing platform to at least in part analyze data at least in part obtained from one or more data sources of an Internet-protocol television (IPTV) network, wherein the data provided by the data sources includes set-top-box data, subscriber data, demographic data, content server data and network usage data. In another embodiment, the computer program at least in part correlates video provisioning information obtained from the data sources, individual subscriber channel viewing information, subscriber data and demographic data to provide informative views of data. The provisioning information may include information such as what programs or television (TV) commercials are shown on each channel during different time periods and the TV or video-on-demand program category information.
