    摘要: Techniques are provided for efficiently processing SOAP requests at a Web service application (WSA) of a multi-functional device (MFP). In one technique, a WSA includes at least three threads. An external request processing thread processes SOAP requests from different client applications. A request processing thread processes a SOAP request according to the business logic of the WSA. A internal communications thread communicates with other components of the MFP that are distinct from the WSA. In another technique, a WSA processes different SOAP request differently, depending on the size of the SOAP and the resources required to process the SOAP request so that fast requests may be processed immediately while slow requests are pending. In another technique, a WS-Eventing specification is implemented within a WSA to simplify the event subscription and notification process.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for communicating with a device is provided. A user views a graphical user interface displayed on a client. For example, the graphical user interface may correspond to a web page or a graphical user interface of an operating system. The graphical user interface may display an icon. The display of the icon may indicate, to the user, whether a device, associated with the icon, is in an energy-saving mode. The user may configure the icon to cause the client to issue requests to the device. A request, sent from the client to the device, may instruct the device to exit the energy-saving mode. In this way, the user may instruct a device to exit the energy-saving mode (i.e., to “wake-up”) prior to issuing a request for the performance of a service (such as a request to print an electronic document) to the device.

    摘要: Various strategies for rate/quality control and loss resiliency in an audio codec are described. The various strategies can be used in combination or independently. For example, a real-time speech codec uses intra frame coding/decoding, adaptive multi-mode forward error correction [“FEC”], and rate/quality control techniques. Intra frames help a decoder recover quickly from packet losses, while compression efficiency is still emphasized with predicted frames. Various strategies for inserting intra frames and signaling intra/predicted frames are described. With the adaptive multi-mode FEC, an encoder adaptively selects between multiple modes to efficiently and quickly provide a level of FEC that takes into account the bandwidth currently available for FEC. The FEC information itself may be predictively encoded and decoded relative to primary encoded information. Various rate/quality and FEC control strategies allow additional adaptation to available bandwidth and network conditions.
