Abstract: An optical multiplexing/demultiplexing apparatus in which a plurality of optical multiplexing/demultiplexing units operating in different wavelength bands are connected hierarchically. Each of the plurality of optical multiplexing/demultiplexing units includes an input waveguide for receiving wavelength multiplexed optical waves, a filter for separating the wavelength multiplexed optical wave from the input waveguide into a first optical wave in a corresponding operating wavelength band and a second optical wave in the other wavelength bands. Each of the multiplexing/demultiplexing units also includes an AWG optical multiplexer/demultiplexer for separating the first optical wave from the filter into individual optical waves each of a single wavelength, and a branch waveguide for directing the second optical waves from the filter to an input waveguide of a succeeding optical multiplexing/demultiplexing unit.

Abstract: Disclosed is a wavelength multi/demultiplexer for separating two wavelength bands with a narrow wavelength spacing. A dielectric multilayer filter is provided in an intersection portion where two optical waveguides intersect each other and separates incident light to the dielectric multilayer filter to transmitted light and reflected light. Here, the distance X from the multilayer surface on the light-incident side of the dielectric multilayer to the central intersection point of the two intersecting optical waveguides is arranged to satisfy 0≦X≦d/2 (where “d” represents the thickness of the dielectric multilayer). With this configuration, a multi/demultiplexer can be realized that shows good wavelength response without spectral degradation even for two wavelengths having narrow wavelength spacing.

Abstract: A dielectric multilayer filter applicable to optical communication systems is disclosed, as is a fabrication method therefor, and an optical element incorporating the same. The disclosed dielectric multilayer filter includes a fluorinated polyimide base layer with a dielectric multilayer formed thereover. According to the disclosed fabrication method, a fluorinated polyimide layer is formed by applying liquid fluorinated polyimide material over a smooth surface to a predetermined thickness followed by drying and hardening, after which a dielectric multilayer is formed over the fluorinated polyimide layer by an ion assist vapor deposition method, and then stripping the fluorinated polyimide layer away from the underlying smooth surface. The disclosed dielectric multilayer filter can be easily and economically produced at a suitably small thickness with no need for grinding, exhibits highly uniform physical and optical properties, and is exceedingly durable and resistant to curling and warping.

Abstract: In measurement requiring application of pressure to a tissue of a living body such as blood pressure measurement, noise due to vibration tends to occur. It is difficult to accurately measure a pulse wave and a blood pressure value. It is also difficult to measure blood pressure in life activities or to measure blood pressure at intervals or continuously where a tonometer is always attached. There is consequently a problem of holding a biologic information detecting apparatus. The present invention solves the problems by providing an easy-to-wear biologic information detecting apparatus for stably detecting biologic information. The biologic information detecting apparatus includes a sensor for detecting biologic information in a pair of arms connected via a spindle, and the sensor is tightly attached to a projecting part in a living body, particularly, a tragus of an auricle.
