摘要: Disclosed are monoacylated Toll-like receptor 2 ligands which can be used in both the development of targeted agents for the imaging and treatment of pancreatic cancer as well as other cancers, and as an adjuvant for cancer immunotherapy. The monoacylated compounds disclosed herein have a higher binding affinity for TLR2 relative to a known potent diacylated agonists, but only −½ the bioactivity. Competition of the monoacylated compound with the diacylated compound for binding TLR2 was confirmed. Hence, the reported monoacylated compounds are inhibitors/antagonists of TLR2 activation.

摘要: Chimeric receptors featuring major histocompatibility molecules grafted onto T cell receptor molecules and surrogate co-receptors featuring cell surface receptor ligands fused with signaling molecule domains. The chimeric receptors can be used to redirect cells, altering their specificity. T cells expressing chimeric receptors may bind to ICRs of target T cells for which their chimeric receptors are specific. Surrogate co-receptors may be used to help enhance TCR-CD3 signaling as part of this modular receptor system. The chimeric receptors and surrogate coreceptors may be used to help eliminate autoreactive T cells or program T cells to desired effector functions.

摘要: Polymers having mechanical properties approaching or exceeding commercial elastomers and engineering thermoplastics, but improved biostability, are described herein. In one embodiment, the polymers have a hard segment containing one or more disulfoxide or disulfone moieties and a soft segment connected to the hard segment to form an elastomeric polymer. The polymer is resistant to oxidation and/or hydrolytic degradation, particularly in vivo, which allows for the use of these materials in implants/devices which are implanted for an extended period of time. The ratio or percentage by weight of soft segment to hard segment can be varied based on the physical and mechanical properties of the desired device.

摘要: A polymeric valve which may include a heart valve, and also may include a trileaflet heart valve includes a stent having a base and a plurality of outwardly extending posts from the base and equidistant from each other. A plurality of leaflets each connected to a corresponding one of the posts at one end, and each of the leaflets connected to the base. Each of the leaflets having an operative end opposite the end connected to the post, and the operative ends of the leaflets being biased in a closed position such that the operative ends abut each other. The operative ends are configured to rhythmically open and close in relation to each other, and the leaflets include multiple cross sectional thicknesses at different portions of the leaflets.

摘要: A solar concentrator may have a horizontal circular track on the ground, a tower centered on a vertical axis of the track, and a rotatable structure around the track having an upper, concave mounting surface approximating the shape of part of a sphere centered on the top of the tower. Articulated concave mirrors are attached to the rotatable structure, and the mirrors have a focal length approximately equal to the radius of a sphere portion formed by the concave mounting surface. Sunlight is focused at a receiver mounted atop the tower, and the receiver may convert sunlight into thermal or electrical energy. As the position of the Sun changes, sunlight is maintained on the receiver by turning the rotatable structure toward the Sun, turning the receiver about said vertical axis to face the mirrors, and articulating the mirrors toward the receiver in response to the changing elevation of the Sun.

摘要: An apparatus for obtaining energy from a polychromatic energy source that emits radiation in a first and a second wavelength band comprises a reflector or an energy receiver having an aperture therein; and a holographic lens that diffracts and focuses the radiation within the first wavelength band from the energy source through said aperture towards a first energy receiver, and transmits the radiation within the second wavelength band from the energy source to the reflector or energy receiver. If a reflector is used, the reflector reflects the radiation transmitted by the holographic lens towards a second energy receiver.
