摘要: A substrate media height detector for a printing system having a print head including a media transport having a surface for moving a sheet of substrate media along a media path in a process direction. An elongate detection member includes a portion extending across the media path in a cross-process direction and is spaced from the media transport surface a predetermined distance. The detection member is movably attached to a support structure and is deflectable upon engagement with a sheet of substrate media. A deflection sensor senses the deflection of the detection member by the substrate media.

摘要: An ink jet printer has a temperature sensor as a permanent part thereof to measure the temperature of printheads which are an integral part of a replaceable printhead cartridge assembly. The temperature sensor is a part of the maintenance station and senses the temperature of the printheads each time the printhead enters the maintenance station. In the preferred embodiment, the temperature sensor is spring-loaded and is located at a printhead spitting location between fixed wiper blades and the capping location in the maintenance station, so that temperature is sensed each time the printhead enters and leaves the maintenance station to eject nozzle cleaning droplets onto a collection surface at the spitting location to clean the printhead nozzle face by the wiper blades, or to cap the printhead nozzles. To facilitate good thermal contact, a recess is provided in the heat sink upon which the printhead resides for entry by the spring-loaded temperature sensor.

摘要: An edge sensing apparatus is disclosed including first and second emitters, first and second detectors and a timer. Beams radiated from the first emitter being emitted in an opposite direction from beams radiated from the second emitter. The first and second detectors being aligned to receive beams from the first and second emitters respectively, where the first detector is offset in a cross-process direction from the first emitter and/or the second detector. The timer receiving signals from both the first and second detectors, wherein a change of the signals determines a position of an edge of a substrate media sheet causing the change of signals. Also, an edge sensing method is disclosed including measuring a mean time associated with a change of signals received from the two detectors and determining a location of a sheet edge causing the change of signals based on the mean time.
