Abstract:
A cylindrical waveguide (1) for analyzing a flowing material (18) using guided microwave spectroscopy (GMS). Spaced apart plates (2, 5) each define a plane within the waveguide housing (3) that is parallel to the direction (47) of material flow through the waveguide. Two opposed frames (7, 19) each surround an aperture (6) that permits access to the region between the waveguide plates (2, 5). A microwave probe assembly (81) is mounted at each frame (7, 19) to permit the radiation and reception of electromagnetic waves within the housing (1). A temperature probe (51) is inserted into the interior of the housing (1) via fitting (13). A y-shaped assembly (89) can be used to divide the flow into two separate paths including a diverter vane (93) that permits flow to be equalized within the two separate flow paths.

An apparatus for playing a game is provided. The apparatus may include a base, a plurality of projectiles and a first target platform moveable with respect to the base. The first target platform may include a collecting position, in which the plurality of projectiles are collected at the first target platform, and a dispersing position, in which the plurality of projectiles are dispersed from the first target platform. The apparatus may further include an actuator mechanism configured to actuate movement of the first target platform from the collecting position to the dispersing position and a first launcher attached to the base and configured to project the plurality of projectiles toward the first target platform.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a guided microwave spectroscopy system (1) that eliminates the need for an automatic gain control feature by providing multiple signal processing paths having differing fixed voltage gains. An emitted signal which exits a test chamber (2) containing a material under test is simultaneously amplified by at least a first fixed gain amplifier (4) and a second fixed gain amplifier (7). The output signal of each amplifier is separately digitized and then normalized for further digital signal processing by a computer (13) in order to determine parameters of the material under test which may have variable microwave radiation characteristics that are a function of the frequency of the signal emitted into the test chamber. During the signal processing step a system clock (121) causes the computer to sample only an integral number of complete output signal cycles. A calibration protocol (136-154) is conducted based on laboratory samples of each potential material to be processed by the system (1).

Abstract:
A finger positioning device for a printer is provided, having a frame, a finger support supported by the frame, the finger support having a loading position and a printing position; and a release latch adjacent the finger support, wherein the finger support is biased to the printing position and the release latch is configured to releasably retain the finger support in the loading position. The finger positioning device may further be configured such that the release latch is triggered to release the finger support from the loading position to the printing position by the distal end of a finger fully introduced onto the finger support.
Abstract:
A light-emitting device (LED) is described which exhibits high extraction efficiency and an emission profile which is substantially more directional than from a Lambertian source. The device comprises a light generating layer disposed between first and second layers of semiconductor material, each having a different type of doping. An upper surface of the first layer has a tiling arrangement of inverted pyramidal or inverted frustro-pyramidal indentations in the semiconductor material filled by a material of different refractive index and which together comprise a photonic band structure. The indentations and their tiling arrangement are configured for efficient extraction of light from the device via the upper surface of the first layer and in a beam that is substantially more directional than from a Lambertian source. An enhanced device employs a reflector beneath the second layer to utilise the microcavity effect. A method for fabricating the device is also described which employs anisotropic wet etching to produce the inverted pyramidal or inverted frustro-pyramidal indentations.
Abstract:
The present solution addresses the displaying of multiple levels of information in a constrained display footprint in a manner that allows a user to be vigilant over the information. Systems and methods are described herein for organizing data and information queries against data sources in a relational display with hierarchical grids, linked to query results, score displays, and alert monitoring. In an embodiment of the present solution, a system allows an analyst to view results and status from monitoring numerous and persistent queries against real-time data streams. Many of these queries may be inter-related and composed in a way to comprehensively analyze a problem. To display, monitor, and interact with a collection of queries, the present solution provides a relational display that makes use of a set of grids via a feature referred to as “grid of grids”. The grids may be arranged in a hierarchy of any number of levels. For example, the grids may be arranged as a directed acyclic graph to facilitate nesting of grids, in which the grids are expanded according to the complexity and levels of granularity in the decomposition of queries for a problem or domain of interest.
Abstract:
System and method protects power drivers (10) and (12) that are used for airbag deployment. Temperature sensors (38) are strategically located on the integrated circuit (36) to detect temperature levels in power drivers (10) and (12). When the temperature in the power drivers (10) and (12) reaches a maximum level, an output is provided to logic block (26). Current detecting circuit (24) provides an output when the current flowing in power driver (10) reaches a desired level. Timing circuit (28) is activated when it receives the output from current detecting circuit (24). At the expiration of the time, timing circuit (28) provides an output to logic block (26). When logic block (26) receives both outputs, logic block (26) shuts drivers (10) and (12) down. When temperature sensors (38) detects that the temperature in integrated circuit (36) has reached a minimum level, logic block (26) reactivates drivers (10) and (12).
Abstract:
An analog television is digitally enabled so that both analog video received in an analog broadcast signal and data received in data packets of a digital broadcast signal can be displayed on the same display. The analog television is digitally enabled by including digital television tuning and demodulation equipment either in the cabinet of the analog television or in a set top box coupled to the analog television.
