摘要: Support sharing resources in a computer system. An operating system within the computer system, the operating system having a kernel level and a user level with the kernel level configured with a first container and a second container. The first container is assigned to a first namespace and the second container is assigned to a second namespace. Both the first and second namespaces are isolated from each other and at the same time in communication with at least one shared object. Communication across the containers is created through a socket in the namespace of the shared object of one or both of the containers. In addition, a conduit is formed between the containers by connecting the container absent the created socket to the container with the socket.

摘要: A physical host executes a virtual machine monitor (VMM) in communication with a plurality of consumer virtual machines (VMs). In response to receipt of a packet, the VMM determines whether a service is to be performed for the packet by a service virtual machine (VM) in communication with the VMM. In response to determining that the service is to be performed for the packet by the service VM, the VMM applies a tag to the packet that differentiates the packet from any other packet sharing a common address with the packet but having a different associated consumer, passes the packet to the service VM for performance of the service, and thereafter removes the tag from the packet in response to receipt of the packet from the service VM following performance of the service. In response to receipt of the packet from the service VM, the VMM forwards the packet.

摘要: A system, method and computer program product for optimizing a software system through scenario evaluation. In accordance with the disclosed technique, a request is received for evaluation of an operational scenario that operates over an environment that is a superset of existing system capabilities encompassing system features or parameters that are not available in the currently running system. A knowledge base is consulted to derive recommendations with respect to operating parameters that may be collected to evaluate the scenario, mechanisms for gathering data relating to the parameters, and data evaluator operations for deriving a data evaluation result based on the data gathering. The knowledge base is further consulted to determine a reconfiguration recommendation based on the result. Scenario evaluation is performed based on simulation of the reconfiguration recommendation using the data evaluation result to determine efficacy of the scenario.

摘要: A method of managing software application workloads starts, on a machine, a software application from startup script. The startup script includes startup tasks. The machine includes an operating system. The operating system includes a kernel. The method requests an application group identifier from the kernel. The method associates the startup tasks with the application group identifier until the startup script ends. The method requests application group identifiers from the kernel. If said application group identifier is a workload, the method requests the kernel to aggregate usage data for the application group identifier. If the application group identifier is not a workload, the method determines a set of application group identifiers that comprise a work load, and requests the kernel to aggregate usage data for the set of application group identifiers. The method receives the aggregated usage data from the kernel, and uses the aggregated usage data to manage the workload.

摘要: A network endpoint system and related method and computer program product for use in a network to support enhanced end-to-end QoS in the network. The network endpoint system is adapted to receive network data of varying priority on behalf of a data consumer operating at the application layer of a network protocol stack implemented by the network endpoint system. The network endpoint system includes a network interface controller adapted to receive network frames containing the network data, plural network data handling channels each having an associated priority, and priority processing logic adapted to transfer the network data from the network interface controller to the plural data handling channels on a prioritized basis according to the network data priority. Also disclosed are a network interface controller and a network node to support enhanced end-to-end QoS in a network.

摘要: A method for managing multicast groups with send-without-receive (SWR) joiners without the use of traps on creation and deletion of groups is provided. Group information is maintained continuously while the SWR member exists. When an SWR join is attempted and the group does not already exist, the group information (MLID) is marked as used and the first switch to which the SWR packets are sent is routed to discard all packets sent to the group. When receiving members join the group, the routing is updated so that the SWR member begins sending to the receiving members. When the last receiving member leaves the group, the first switch is again routed to discard the packets.
