摘要： A fastener and a method for reducing wear on a driver blade in a fastening tool includes applying a layer of solid-based lubricant between the head of a fastener and a driver blade end. The fastener is for use in a fastening tool and includes a head, a shank, and a layer of lubricant on the head of the fastener. The lubricant is graphite, molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, boron nitride, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), nano-diamonds, calcium stearate, sodium stearate, oils, greases, waxes, thermoplastic polymers, or another lubricant that exhibits similar characteristics. Aromatic polyamides (such as Kevlar™), ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, powdered glass, glass fibers, thermoplastic polymers, and thermoset polymers also are contemplate to provide a barrier to contact between the driver blade and fastener head. The lubricant is sprayed, rolled, brushed, blotted or otherwise applied between the head of the fastener and the driver blade end prior to firing the fastening tool.

摘要： A collation strip for use within a nail gun is fabricated from a suitable polypropylene composition and has a relatively large thickness dimension, however, in order to impart enhanced flexibility to the thickened collation strip, the collation strip is provided with a plurality of auxiliary apertures within its spine section, or alternatively within its spine and hinged sections. Such enhanced flexibility permits the collation strip to be utilized under relatively low temperature conditions such that the collation strip will not experience jamming within the nail gun.

摘要： An angled strips of brads with a plurality of cohered brads having a shank with a tip portion. A head portion of at least some of the plurality of brads having a bulge protruding forwardly from the leading side thereof and extending at least partially into the trailing side of the head portion of an adjacent brad. An upper leading side portion of the head portions of the plurality of brads offset rearwardly of the leading side of the shank, whereby interlocking of adjacent head portions of the angled strip of brads is reduced. The rearwardly biased head portion is formed preferably with a rearwardly sloped riser portion of a header punch.

摘要： A coated metal fastener and a coating composition that has particular affinity for plaster materials and the like is disclosed. The composition that is applied to the fastener contains a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride and a thermoplastic resin, preferably polyvinyl acetate, in an inert organic solvent. The organic solvent can be an aromatic solvent, a ketone, a chlorohydrocarbon, or a mixture thereof. The composition is applied to the fastener by conventional methods and cured thereon at about ambient temperature.

摘要： A substitute strip of collated nails having cylindrical shanks of an uniform diameter, which is smaller than the uniform diameter of the shanks of the nails of a standard strip, and being collated by a pair of tapes. Each tape extends across the nail shanks and is adhered by an adhesive layer to a respective one of diametrically opposed areas on the shank of each nail of the substitute strip. As distinguished from the standard strip, at least one tape of the substitute strip has an outer rib extending along such tape. Because of the outer rib or outer ribs, the substitute strip and the standard tape can be interchangeably fed by a nail-feeding magazine of a rapidly acting, nail-driving tool.

摘要： A nail having an offset head is configured with a multi-step support gusset formed integrally between an undersurface of the offset head and a superior portion of a shank. The head of the nail is relatively thin, and the shank is positioned radially off center of the head. A first portion of the gusset defines an angle relative to the shank axis and the second portion of the gusset defines an angle relative to the shank axis different from that of the first portion. The support gusset reinforces the junction of the shank with the head, supports the toe of the head, and distributes the force of a load on the head through a longitudinal axis of the shank, preventing the toe from bending or yielding and prevents the shank from yielding to the stresses of the load applied.

摘要： A building assembly comprises a wooden board, a metal framing member, and a fastener having an elongate shank, an enlarged head, and a generally pointed end and fastening the board to the framing member. The shank has a ringed portion with annular grooves defining annular rings having a uniform, outer diameter, helical grooves intersecting the annular grooves, a cylindrical land having a smaller diameter and dividing the ringed portion into an axially longer subportion nearer to the tip and an axially shorter subportion nearer the head, a cylindrical land between the tip and the ringed portion, and a cylindrical land between the head and the ringed portion. The fastener is driven through the board and through the framing member wall so that the head bears against the board, so that the tip and the shank form, from the wall of the framing member, a generally annular lip projecting toward the tip and so that the lip is disposed around the cylindrical land dividing the ringed portion. The wall of the framing member has sufficient resiliency for the lip when disposed around the cylindrical land to have an inner diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the annular ring nearest to the cylindrical land among the annular rings of the subportion nearer to the tip. Each helical groove taken in cross-section is either symmetrical or asymmetrical with respect to a plane comprising the axis defined by the shank and intersecting said helical groove where such helical groove is deepest.

摘要： A process for coating a metal fastener with a coating composition that has a particular affinity for plaster materials is disclosed. The composition comprises a mixture of a copolymer of an aromatic monomer, preferably styrene, and a monomer with .alpha., .beta. unsaturation with carboxyl groups, preferably maleic anhydride, and a thermoplastic resin disposed within an organic solvent. The resin is preferably polyvinyl acetate, and the solvent can be an aromatic solvent, a ketone, a chlorohydrocarbon, or a mixture there of. The coating composition is disposed within a reservoir, and the fastener is dipped into the composition within the reservoir. The coated fastener is then subsequently dried at approximately ambient temperature.
