摘要: One example embodiment includes a method for constructing a unified namespace carried out by a domain manager service executing on a domain node in a domain network comprised of domain nodes. The method includes establishing a single, hierarchical domain tree that encompasses digital computers in a distributed data service network, where the domain manager service sends a request to all domain member nodes requesting that each domain node export the root of its sub-domain to the domain manager. The method also includes receiving the exported sub-domain roots. The method further includes grafting onto a domain root of the domain manager service the received exported sub-domain roots.

摘要: A method for retrieving an encrypted image of an object from a server site (22), caching it at a client site (24), and providing a decrypted image of the object to an authorized requester. When the requester is not authorized to access a decrypted image of the source data object, the encrypted image of the object cached at a client site (24) may be deleted, and/or, an authentication failure message may be sent to the server site, a security monitoring agency, the object's owner, and/or any other designated entity that can be contacted via any network accessible to the site that has detected the authentication failure.

摘要: An upstream NDC site accesses a file that is alternatively accessible through at least two downstream NDC sites. The downstream NDC sites belong to a DDS domain which is a sub-domain of a domain at the upstream NDC site. Portal files at each downstream NDC store distinct network addresses for communicating with the different downstream NDC. A DDS domain manager at the upstream NDC site retrieves and uses a first network address for establishing data conduit between the upstream NDC site and one of the downstream NDC sites. If the upstream NDC site fails to receive a response to a message, that site uses a second network address for establishing a second data conduit between the upstream NDC site and the other downstream NDC site. In another aspect, the NDC sites ensure consistency between the file and the projected image of the file cached in the upstream NDC site.

摘要: A hierarchical distributed search mechanism is integrated into a distributed file system. Traditional file system APIs (create, open, close, read, write, link, rename, delete, . . . ) and the over-the-wire protocols employed to project these APIs into remote client sites (CIFS, NFS, DDS, Appletalk) are extended to enable the dynamic creation of temporary directories containing links to objects identified by search engines (executing at sites “close” to “their” data) as meeting the search criteria specified by the first parameter of a search function call. The search function, derived from the standard file system API function create, is added to the file system API.

摘要: A method and apparatus for characterizing the properties of the region surrounding a borehole. In one embodiment, a downhole tool including a neutron generator is used to generate neutron pulses into the region surrounding the borehole. At least two detectors in the downhole tool detect gamma radiation pulses resulting from the capture of neutrons by elements in the surrounding region. For each gamma radiation pulse detected, a record is made of its amplitude and the time that the pulse was detected, measured to a resolution of a few microseconds. The amplitude/timestamp data is stored in memory in the tool for later retrieval. The data generated is stored in memory and interpretation can be made by the operator or log analyst after the memory module data has been transferred from the tool.
