    摘要: An indicator position detecting device and method are provided, which allow accurate position detection without the influence of noise in detection of the position of an indicator (e.g., a finger, a stylus pen) by a capacitive coupling system. To a conductor pattern in which plural conductors for signal transmission and plural conductors for signal reception intersect with each other, signals with frequencies different from each other are simultaneously supplied to the plural conductors on the transmission side, and signals of respective frequencies corresponding to the plural signals with the different frequencies are detected on the reception side, to thereby detect the position of an indicator on the conductor pattern. The amount of noise of each of the detected frequencies is detected. Any frequency that cannot be properly detected due to noise is switched to another frequency, and detection is carried out based on the newly selected frequency.

The position indicator includes: a first electrode configured to receive an alternating-current (AC) signal from the position detecting sensor; a signal enhancing processing circuit configured to subject the AC signal received via the first electrode to determined signal enhancing processing; and a second electrode different from the first electrode and configured to be supplied with a signal output from the signal enhancing processing circuit. An enhanced signal having a determined correlation with the AC signal received via the first electrode from the position detecting sensor is formed while the enhanced signal is sent out to the position detecting sensor via the second electrode.

    摘要: A pointer detection apparatus is provided, which is capable of detecting a pointed position and a pressure applied by a pointer on a detection sensor. The detection sensor includes a plurality of first conductors disposed in a first direction, a plurality of second conductors disposed in a second direction crossing with the first direction, and a pressure sensitive material disposed between the first and second conductors and having a variable resistance characteristic. When a pointer is positioned in the proximity of (but not in contact with) the detection sensor or when a pressure applied to the detection sensor by the pointer in contact with the detection sensor is equal to or lower than a threshold, detection signals corresponding to variation in electrostatic capacity between the first and second conductors are supplied. When the pressure applied to the detection sensor is higher than the threshold, detection signals corresponding to variation in resistance characteristic of the pressure sensitive material are supplied.

Further, a relationship of frequency interleave may be provided between a transmission signal to be supplied to the transmission conductor in the first position detection system and another transmission signal to be supplied to the transmission conductor in the second position detection system.

The apparatus also includes a signal detection circuit connected to the second conductors for detecting a signal corresponding to a variation of electrostatic capacitance between the conductor pattern and a pointer, an analog to digital conversion (ADC) circuit for converting the signal output from the signal detection circuit into a digital signal comprising a word string of multiple bits, and a correlation detection circuit for determining correlation values between the code strings and the word string. The apparatus also includes a memory for storing correlation values successively output from the correlation detection circuit, wherein the pointer is detected based on the correlation values.

This point detecting device is adapted for a large scaled system which is required to be operated at a low cost and at high accuracy.
