Abstract: An optical component includes a first optical element having a curved first major surface; and an optical stack formed into a curved shape. The optical stack is bonded and conforms to the curved first major surface of the first optical element. The optical stack includes a reflective polarizer including a plurality of polymeric layers; and a non-adhesive flexible optical layer bonded to the reflective polarizer prior to forming the optical stack into the curved shape, such that the non-adhesive flexible optical layer bonded to the reflective polarizer improves a desired optical property of the reflective polarizer upon forming the optical stack into the curved shape relative to that of the reflective polarizer being formed into the curved shape without the non-adhesive flexible optical layer bonded to the reflective polarizer.

Abstract: An optical stack includes a light control film and an optical film disposed on the light control film. The light control film includes a plurality of visible light transmitting regions separated from each other by one or more visible light absorbing regions. The optical film includes a plurality of microlayers having an F-ratio between about 0.25 to about 0.35 or about 0.65 to about 0.75. The optical film further includes a primary reflection band having a first band edge between about 600 nanometers (nm) and about 700 nm, and a secondary reflection band having a second band edge between about 350 nm and about 460 nm. The plurality of microlayers has an average optical reflectance of greater than about 80% across a FWHM of the primary reflection band for each of mutually orthogonal first and second polarization states.

Abstract: Optical films, such as reflective polarizer films, and optical systems including the optical films are described. An optical system includes one or more optical lenses having at least one curved major surface, a partial reflector, and a reflective polarizer. For a substantially normally incident light in a predetermined wavelength range extending at least from about 450 nm to about 600 nm: the partial reflector has an average optical reflectance of at least 30%, and the reflective polarizer has an average optical reflectance Rs for a first polarization state, an average optical transmittance Tp for an orthogonal second polarization state, and an average optical reflectance Rp for the second polarization state, where Tp≥80%, Rp≤1%, and 50%≤Rs≤95%.

Abstract: An optical stack includes a reflective polarizer including a plurality of interference layers and an absorbing polarizer disposed on the reflective polarizer. The plurality of interference layers transmits at least about 85% of an incident light having a first polarization state, reflects at least about 80% of the incident light having a second polarization state, and transmits less than about 0.1% of the incident light having the second polarization state. The absorbing polarizer has a first transmittance for the first polarization state and a second transmittance for the second polarization state. An average of the first and second transmittances is greater than about 0.46. The second transmittance has a first standard deviation. The optical stack has a transmittance for the second polarization state having a second standard deviation which is less than the first standard deviation by at least about 10%. A display includes the optical stack.

Abstract: A display system includes a light source configured to emit light from a light exit surface, the emitted light having an emitted wavelength. An optical filter is disposed on the light exit surface of the light source. One or more light converting films are disposed between the optical filter and the light exit surface of the light source. The one or more light converting films are configured to receive the emitted light from the light source and convert at least portions of the received emitted light to blue, green, and red lights having respective blue, green and red wavelengths. For a substantially normally incident light and for at least an in-plane first polarization state, the optical filter reflects more than about 80% of the incident light having the emitted wavelength, and transmits greater than about 60% of the incident light for each of the blue, green and red wavelengths.
