摘要: Described herein is coated article comprising: (a) a substrate comprising a ceramic, a glass, or a glass ceramic, wherein the substrate comprises a surface, the surface comprising a continuous upper portion and a plurality of lower portions, wherein each lower portion is connected to the upper portion by at least one sidewall; and (b) a first layer comprising a material capable of physical vapor deposition, wherein the first layer is disposed on the continuous upper portion and at least a portion of each sidewall and wherein at least a portion of each lower portion is free of the first layer. Methods of making such coated articles are described herein, wherein the substrate is coating via angular physical vapor deposition.

摘要: Dimensionally-stable fibrous structures including ceramic-coated melt-blown nonwoven fibers made of a flame-retarding polymer and processes for producing such fire-resistant nonwoven fibrous structures. The melt-blown fibers include poly(phenylene sulfide) in an amount sufficient for the nonwoven fibrous structures to pass one or more fire-resistance test, e.g. UL 94 V0, FAR 25.853 (a), FAR 25.856 (a), and CA Title 19, without any halogenated flame-retardant additive, and have a ceramic coating. The melt-blown fibers are subjected to a controlled in-flight heat treatment at a temperature below a melting temperature of the poly(phenylene sulfide) immediately upon exiting from at least one orifice of a melt-blowing die, in order to impart dimensional stability to the fibers. The nonwoven fibrous structures including the in-flight heat-treated melt-blown fibers exhibit a Shrinkage less than a Shrinkage measured on a nonwoven fibrous structure including only fibers not subjected to the controlled in-flight heat treatment operation, generally less than 15%.

摘要: An optical system for examining an optical characteristic of a test material at at least a first wavelength includes an elongated hollow structure elongated along a length thereof and having one or more walls extending along the length of the hollow structure and defining an elongated chamber therebetween configured to receive the test material. The elongated hollow structure includes at least a first light opening, such that for the at least the first wavelength, the one or more walls have an optical reflectance of greater than about 50% for incident angles of up to at least 40 degrees, and at least one of the at least the first light opening has an optical transmittance of greater than about 50% for at least one incident angle.

摘要: A lightguide includes features for extracting light that would otherwise be confined and propagate within the lightguide primarily by total internal reflection. A first portion of light propagating within the lightguide and extracted exits the lightguide through a first area of the lightguide having an optical reflectance of at least 30% and an optical transmittance of at least 5% for normally incident light at a wavelength of the extracted light. A second portion of light propagating within the lightguide and extracted exits the lightguide through a different second area of the lightguide having an optical transmittance of at least 80% for normally incident light at the wavelength of the extracted light.
